Anchored within a non-profit research institute, the Innovation Advisors deliver consulting services and analyses that are rooted in research.


We're looking for a driven, enthusiastic team member to help us conduct the research that helps launch products and services into the market, inform important decisions, and forge commercialization partnerships. This is a consulting role where you will conduct primary and secondary research, analyze and synthesize insights, and deliver these insights to clients. You will support our clients in a broad range of projects related to medical technology (MedTech) products and services. You may also support project work related to manufacturing, aerospace and defense, consumer packaged goods, and other areas.


Our work is fast-paced, challenging, and varied. We're looking for someone who has experience in medical technology-related products and services, which may include digital health, medical devices, biomanufacturing, diagnostics, therapeutic devices, and other clinical decision support solutions. Though the position is office-based, team members will apply their technical skills towards solving challenging research questions.

Responsibilities:


The analyst will work alongside and receive mentorship by the Innovation Advisors to conduct tasks related to market research and commercialization of new technologies that are often outside the scope of a candidate's current study or technical experience. The analyst will:



  • Conduct research using secondary resources (published company information, SEC filings, scholarly journals, patent databases, trade literature, and news articles), as well as primary resources (interviews)

  • Provide insightful analysis of opportunities identified during primary and secondary research, in written and oral format

  • Share insights in written and oral format within the IA team, as well as with clients

  • Develop marketing descriptions of new technologies and conduct research in a wide range of technology areas and industries

  • Understand business and legal issues related to commercialization of new technologies

  • Apply general technical acumen and scientific skills to evaluate a variety of technologies

  • Employ commercialization and innovation-related frameworks, such as the business model canvas and value proposition testing, to new technologies

  • Form, deliver, and communicate recommendations to a variety of client types, which may include (but are not limited to) large medical technology manufacturers, small business or academic innovators, or program directors serving in foundations, economic development programs, and more.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of work experience, OR Master's degree with 2-4 years of experience, or Ph.D. graduate with 1-2 years of experience

  • Area of study in science or engineering discipline, or business with a technical or innovation focus (e.g., economics).

  • Career interest in innovation, technology transfer and commercialization, and consulting.

  • Demonstrated comfort and willingness to regularly work outside the scope of the candidate's technical field of study.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication, time management, analytical skills.

  • Team-centric thinking and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in typical computer applications such as the MS Office Suite, including Teams, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Motivated, hardworking individual with a passion for technology commercialization and consulting.

  • Detail-oriented and able to work both independently and collaboratively.


Preferred Qualifications:


RTI Innovation Advisors values candidates' diverse technical experiences and skillsets. The following qualifications represent some preferences for education and skillsets, but we welcome those with alternative backgrounds to apply, should they fit the minimum qualifications.



  • Area of study aligns with one (or more) of the following:

  • Biochemistry, molecular or structural biology, microbiology, medicinal biology, pharmacology, or biomedical engineering Chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science, or closely related disciplines


  • Electrical engineering or neurosciences



  • Experience in the medical technology or the healthcare industry related to market strategy, product development, product management, innovation, and/or technology consulting.

  • Experience or familiarity with medical technology-related products and services, which may include digital health, medical devices, biomanufacturing, diagnostics, therapeutic devices, and other clinical decision support solutions.

  • Experience, coursework, or other training in product development, technology transfer, business development, market analysis, patent licensing, finance, or marketing.

  • Strong interviewing skills or an ability to ask thoughtful, probing questions.

  • Facilitation experience, or an interest in learning related skills.

  • Experience with conveying difficult, complex concepts in a visual report deliverable.

  • An ability and willingness to join our team in person in Research Triangle Park, NC, frequently

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below. Our pay ranges represent national averages and may vary by location as a geographic differential may be applied to some locations within the United States.
