Medical Coder - Lead (Orthopedics) - 1.0 FTE (Remote)

The Medical Coder - Lead position is responsible for leading and overseeing the accurate and timely coding of intermediate to complex diagnostic, E&M, procedural and surgery services in accordance with current billing, coding regulations and policies! This role coordinates coder's daily work load, assists with scheduling coders, providing feedback, direction and training to coding staff for a major medical area.
Medical Coder - Lead Overview
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide coding expertise for sub specialties within Divisions, Implements CPT/ICD-10 changes and communication materials
- Performs coding quality reviews on a monthly basis, and shares findings with staff
- Maintains current knowledge of all coding, payer and compliance requirements
- Provides education to coding staff when needed
- Completes daily Epic work files and task lists as assigned. Helps lead appeals process as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
- HS grad with current CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-A, RHIT and/or RHIA coding certification
- Certified coder, with increasing complex coding experience with intermediate to complex diagnostic services and procedures
- 5+ years of experience in coding and/or with previous experience in revenue cycle, healthcare/clinical operations
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate at all levels of the organization and in both small and larger-sized settings
- Proven influencing and partnering skills; ability to build and facilitate relationships and all levels of the organization
- Maintains core/universal proficiencies and completes any new required findings
- Ability to get results, mentor and provide feedback, and be a positive influence to staff
- Ability to use computer and medical billing systems; extensive knowledge of medical terminology
- Good analytical skills; able to identify and resolve problems or issues and provide positive solutions, both at an individual and team level
- Proven ability to improve processes and work flows, ability to train and lead change within team.
