Summary


K-12 and Family Programs Educator assists the Director of Education and Public Programs with all aspects of running the museum's active education department. This individual's primary responsibility is to design and implement K-12 school programs, teacher workshops and family programs that impact the lives of a diverse audience.


The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for art, education, and museum learning; possess the ability to tackle large projects independently; and work in a fast-paced team environment. The K-12 and Family Programs Educator will build and maintain productive relationships with colleagues, educators, students, interns and Gallery Guides to meet the museum's strategic goals.


This position works closely with the Assistant Director of Education and reports to the Director of Education and Public Programs.


Work Performed- Exhibition And Collection Interpretation


  • Researches, designs and leads curricular tours and activities for K-12 student audiences.
  • Develops resources for K-12 teachers including K-12 pre-visit and post-visit materials, self-guided prompts, gallery activities, and online lesson plans utilizing the collection.
  • Develops and leads professional development workshops for teachers utilizing the museum s permanent collection and special exhibitions.
  • Assists the Assistant Director of Education and Gallery Guide Manager in training a 30-member Gallery Guide corps.
  • Creates community outreach programs; develops, coordinates, and executes family programming throughout the year.
  • Promotes the K-12 school and family programs in the community.
  • Recruits and manages the volunteer Teacher Advisory Council.


Administrative


  • Communicates with teachers in regards to their planned field trips to the museum, including confirmation of tour details, assuring teachers are achieving the objective of their visits, and arranging bus scholarships.
  • Assists in creating and managing budgets for programs and projects.
  • Participates in grant proposal writing for education program-related museum funding.
  • Works with the Director of Education and Public Programs and marketing team to create printed materials each academic year to promote the K-12 school tour program and teacher workshops.
  • Maintains the teacher and school address database.
  • Performs other related duties as needed.


Preferred Experience


2-3 years demonstrated experience in museum education field. Experience working with K-12 students and teachers preferred.


Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities


Knowledge of museum procedures, practices, ethics and museum education methods and theory. Teaching experience (formal or informal). Excellent writing, communications, and project management skills. Strong people skills and ability to manage and motivate volunteers. Ability to work well with others in team environment, prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications


Education


Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.


Experience


Work requires one year of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.
