Job Description:


The Assistant Director (AD) of Residential Life and Housing for Residential Education works closely with the Director of Residential Life and Housing to provide a supportive living and learning environment for the approximately 1750undergraduate and graduate students living in the Clark community. As a leader in Campus Life, the AD will collaborate with campus partners to ensure substantial leadership development, first year experience, and social justice programming for students, paraprofessional staff, and professional staff in Residential Life and Housing. This individual is responsible for supervision of four (4) full-time Community Directors; the planning and implementation of student leader trainings and in services for Resident Advisers and Peer Advisers; managing the residential education curriculum model; collaborating with other departments to provide educational opportunities outside of the classroom for both staff and students; and implementation and development of the Residence Hall Association. The position includes a partially furnished live-in apartment (required) and serves in the professional staff on duty rotation for Residential Life and Housing.



  • Directly supervise the Community Director staff (three to four, full-time staff members).
  • Develop and implement student leader trainings, in-services, and mentorship program.
  • Manage the residential education curriculum model.
  • Develop multiple methods for on-going training of student leaders, including workshops, seminars, online modules,printed materials, and more.
  • Advise the National Residence Hall Honorary and Residence Hall Association.
  • Manage the budget lines related to residential education (RA Training, RA Appreciation, Programming in the Residence Halls, etc.).
  • Coordinate departmental efforts to provide educational opportunities outside of the classroom with a focus on first year experience, leadership development, and social justice.
  • Collaborate with campus partners on identifying and managing issues with students of concern.
  • Serve as on-duty staff person for the residential community on a rotating basis.
  • Serve as a member of the University Conduct Board and hold conduct meetings to educate students regardingcommunity standards.
  • Assist and mentor students on an individual and group basis regarding personal, academic, and housing-relatedconcerns, including roommate conflicts.
  • Develop and implement the Residence Hall Association.
  • Assist with student leader recruitment and selection.
  • Working with the Director of Campus Life for Student Leadership & Programming, advise an assigned group of clubs and organizations.
  • Work at student and departmental events as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:


  • Master's degree in college student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, or related field preferred; bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of three years residence hall employment experience.
  • Experience with supervision, student conduct, crisis response, educational programming, working with faculty, and working with a diverse population is desirable.
  • Demonstrated skill at managing crisis situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusion, strong multicultural competencies,and an understanding of the experiences of underrepresented and marginalized student populations in highereducation. Demonstrated supervisory experience, preferably with full-time staff.
  • Familiarity with academic support and development programs.
  • Strong administrative and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
