GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Pre-Operations Engineer will provide engineering support to the Control Center, High Voltage Operations, and Operational Technology teams in the areas of plant integration, compliance, process effectiveness, betterment project development, and interdepartmental communication.

This position will be on a hybrid work schedule, working three days in the office and two days from home.


Main Accountabilities:

  • Acquire a thorough understanding of EDPR NA's assets and processes
  • Participate in the engineering, design, and construction review processes including review of communication systems, SCADA, collection system, substation, and transmission line designs
  • Assist with incorporating Lessons Learned in the Engineering Design Standards and Standard HV BOP Scope of Work documents from a compliance and operations perspective
  • Collaborate with Construction, Engineering, and the Project Management Organization to set and hold commissioning milestone dates related to project transition and integration
  • Assist in the design and integration of new projects' plant controls through the preparation of grid connection forms
  • Support commissioning, start-up, and initial operating activities of new projects
  • Support testing and commissioning of plant SCADA and power plant control Systems
  • Provide input to engineering and construction to improve commissioning procedures and SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures)
  • Review commissioning records to identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to ensure compliance with the applicable NERC standards
  • Ensure procedures are in place for safe and efficient switching operations for plants under construction
  • Provide recommendations for optimization of startup of High Voltage and Control Equipment spare parts
  • Interact closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that project needs, and objectives are met
  • Participate in project meetings and conference calls
  • Interpret plans, specifications, drawings, and documents related to renewable power plants
  • Participate in the due-diligence review of renewable power project's electrical designs
  • Participate in investigations of electrical and control-related issues at construction projects including root cause analyses as needed
  • Maintain the knowledge-sharing databases to include compliance efforts and other internal compliance tracking tools and provide suggestions for process improvements
  • Participate in various task forces related to RCA's, compliance investigations, and other operational investigations
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar and equivalent related experience
  • 2+ years of relevant maintenance, operations, design, or consulting experience, preferably including some NERC compliance responsibilities
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and preferred familiarity with SQL database applications, Business Intelligence and Business Management Systems (Appian, Tableau, OSI PI), and reporting tools & processes
  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise. (Preferred)

  • Physical demands: Ability to occasionally perform physical requirements including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and climbing at project locations in order to inspect equipment or collect information
