The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) is seeking an experienced professional in the Central Virginia area to ensure adequate and appropriate care and treatment for individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, substance abuse, and brain injury by conducting statute mandated inspections for compliance with licensing regulations governing providers of these services. The position will review compliance with policies and procedure development of assigned providers with licensing regulations, investigate complaints and incidents. The position will also conduct investigations, evaluate and monitor corrective action plans, use independent judgment in determining compliance to applicable regulations, recommend licensing actions, and advise and consult with providers on how to comply with applicable regulations, develop, and implement systemic corrective actions to areas found not in compliance. The position requires weekday and occasional overnight travel and will be based out of the Central Virginia area (Richmond, Chesterfield, Henrico, Hanover and Petersburg).
Minimum Qualifications
Position requires experience including assessment, service and treatment plans, and treatment interventions; knowledge of best treatment practices, ability to discuss issues with applicants and provide technical assistance regarding regulations. Administrative, management or quality assurance experience with public and private service delivery systems; experience in interpreting statutes, regulations, policies and standards, and in conducting investigations; ability to communicate verbally and in writing with clients, family members and varied levels of staff, management and governmental entities.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer experience in a licensing or regulatory environment. Master’s degree in a human services related field strongly preferred.
Special Requirements
Effective July 5, 2022, all Commonwealth of VA State Employees are required to work onsite. However, this position has a unique blend of telework and in-office abilities. However, staff must be available for onsite office meetings/special projects, as requested, at the DBHDS Central Office located in Richmond, Virginia. Applicants should reside or intend to relocate within a 50-60 mile radius of the region, in order to meet the duties and demands of the position and to navigate traveling within the region.
