Position Summary
To employ a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in a particular field of specialization. To plan, design, and conduct research and present findings.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Applies diversified knowledge of scientific research principles, practices, and protocols to the planning and implementation of scientific research projects related to lifestyle modification and health promotion interventions.
- Collaborates in the analysis and reporting of results, including published manuscripts and scientific presentations.
- Designs and implements small independent research studies.
- Coordinates work of research project staff.
- Advises and collaborates with faculty and independent scientists to develop research projects, grant proposals, and manuscripts related to lifestyle modification and health promotion interventions.
- Prepares grant proposals to obtain funding for research projects and training/education programs.
- Serves as a proposal coordinator and lead writer in the preparation of large-scale grant applications, e.g. research center or multi-institution proposals.
- Maintains current knowledge on behavioral medicine, preventive medicine, and translational research topics and methods.
- Coordinates work of scientific writing staff.
- Provides supervision and research mentorship for trainees, including undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other trainees involved in or developing projects.
- Designs and implements research protocols and projects, advanced analytical techniques, and the modification and extension of theories and practices in innovative research projects in the field or specialty.
- Develops statistical and observational models.
- Independently, or in collaboration, conceives of increasingly complex research projects or training programs, writes grant applications, and carries projects to completion.
- Analyzes data and reports research findings.
- Applies diversified knowledge of scientific research principles, practices, and protocols in research projects.
- May make recommendations and conclusions that serve as the basis for decision-making in a specialty area.
- Collaborates with users and principal investigators on the design, analysis, application, and reporting of research projects.
- Teaches and advises on techniques.
- May require education and/or training work and may include developing intramural training symposia, mentoring undergraduate students, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows.
- Supplies technical leadership and consultation to professional co-workers, collaborations, and graduate students.
- Prepares grant proposals to obtain funding in support.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Annual Pay Range: $74,100 - $120,700
Qualifications
Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and four (4) years of related experience OR M.D. and Master's degree and two (2) years of related experience OR Master's degree and six (6) years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirements.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Experience
- Ability to prioritize diverse tasks and maintain deadlines despite competing demands.
- High level of written and verbal communication skills with academic and non-academic staff and collaborators.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
