KoolSpan, Inc
Irvine, California
FULL_TIME

KoolSpan seeks a full-stack developer to help further our ambitious mission to build a device-agnostic, internet-disconnected communication product with configurable levels of security and flexible deployment options.

KoolSpan's security and privacy solutions address the growing threat of loss or theft of intellectual property, vital information, and proprietary assets. Customers include government organizations and enterprises in over 60 countries worldwide that span financial services, industrial/manufacturing, energy, transportation, and healthcare. KoolSpan has 42 issued international patents with several more pending.

This position is a great fit for an experienced developer who communicates their big opinions with kindness. We're small, have challenging work, and every employee makes a difference at KoolSpan.

Why You Will Enjoy Working with Us

We're Focused

We compete with bigger, better-funded players. We win by focusing on our unique value proposition and ignoring the shiny objects that aren't in our wheelhouse.

We're Lean

We're intentionally small and we hire judiciously. We deliver terrific, targeted solutions and lack the megalomaniacal instinct to conquer the entire world. Conquering our lucrative domain is good enough for us.

We're Supportive

Our teams are diverse, scrappy, and compassionate. We're educated risk-takers who celebrate success and forgive failure.

We're Logical

At KoolSpan, the best idea wins regardless of who voices it.

We're Remote

100% remote work with occasional in-person get-togethers. We've built an asynchronous culture that enables teammates to concentrate and minimize meetings.

What You Will Do

You'll be developing brand-new products through the stack from back to front. We have recently rearchitected our suite so we have guidance and learning from our previous products with absolutely no legacy spaghetti code.

Requirements

  • At least five years of professional experience writing commercial-grade software
  • Strong hands-on full-stack application development experience (.NET Framework, C#, .NET Core / .NET 6)
  • Experience with web design and UI frameworks (Angular, Vue, React, MVC, Blazor, etc )
  • Experience with RESTful web services
  • Experience with database design, maintenance, tuning, and administration (SQL Server or equivalent)
  • Experience with containerization (docker, etc.) and deployment strategies
  • Although we're 100% remote, you must be located within a few time zones of US Eastern, in the United States, so we have plenty of overlap to collaborate during the work day

Bonus Points For These Skills

  • Knowledge/experience/awareness/understanding of web and software security principles, protecting against common attacks
  • Basic (or better) understanding of cryptography principles
  • Passion for design documentation

What We Offer

We offer medical benefits, flexible hours, unlimited PTO, 401k with company match, and a great work-life balance.

Please send your resume and a cover letter with brief answers to the following questions to KSJobs@:

  1. Users and QA engineers are complaining that the "site is slow". Please describe how you would begin to address this problem. What are some optimizations that you could anticipate making?
  2. You are tasked with developing a brand new, from-scratch software application for your company. There is an open-ended deadline. Let's imagine all of the requirements are completely defined, organized, and clear to you. It is time to begin. Where do you start? Can you give a high-level overview of your approach to this arbitrary project?
  3. Without including any code, please describe how you have used polymorphism in the context of an actual programming scenario in one of your jobs/projects.
  4. Briefly toot your own horn. What have you accomplished in the past that makes you a good fit for KoolSpan?
