Job Description:



OFFICIAL TITLE: Assistant Director, Continuing
Education/Adult Student Advisor



SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Assistant Dean for Graduate and
Continuing Education



SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May supervise non-professional and/or
part-time student staff as assigned.



GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Assistant Director,
Continuing Education/Adult Student Advisor is housed within the
Division of Graduate & Continuing Education and is charged with
advising non-matriculated undergraduate students and serves as a
support person for adult and non-traditional matriculated students
at Worcester State. Facilitate admissions within the Addictions
Counseling Certificate and assist with other administrative
departmental processes. This advisor will serve on relevant
committees on campus and will work to improve the experiences of
non-matriculated, diverse and adult students on campus. This will
involve working across divisions on campus. Hours will be
determined by the Division head based on departmental needs.



RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. (E) Advising undergraduate non-matriculated students taking
    DGCE classes leading to matriculation.

  2. (E) Co-advising matriculated undergraduate students taking
    courses through continuing education.

  3. (E) Assisting and facilitating the university life experience
    portfolio program. Working with individual academic departments in
    the development of life experience policies and continually
    assessing and evaluating the program.

  4. (E) Assisting in the marketing and promotion efforts of
    continuing education courses and programs specifically and the
    university as a whole.

  5. (E) Working with non-traditional, under-represented and diverse
    student populations.

  6. (E) Working with the Liberal Studies Program in the
    co-recruitment and co-advising of students.

  7. (E) Program development and support for credit and non-credit
    continuing education programs.

  8. (E) Working across divisions to improve the academic experience
    of non-matriculated, diverse, first generation and adult students
    at Worcester State.

  9. (E) Working with the Latino Education Institution to segue
    students from cohort-based (grant) programs into university
    credit-bearing programs.

  10. (E) Serving as a resource for the Latino Education Institute
    with regards to programming and supporting students (for example in
    the Club E program).

  11. (E) Assisting non-matriculated and non-traditional students
    with navigating higher education systems (including registration,
    financial aid, student support services, retention, etc.).

  12. (E) Managing the admissions process for the Addictions
    Counseling Certificate and assisting the certificate advisor with
    other administrative duties.

  13. (E) Managing and supporting of Alpha Sigma Lambda honor society
    and adult-student community building events.

  14. (E) Managing Adult Student outreach through initiatives such as
    newsletter and other communication efforts.

  15. (E) Performing general administrative duties in support of the
    division's processes and evolving needs.

  16. (E) Advising hours to be adapted according to students' and
    departmental needs.

  17. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service
    oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and
    students.

  18. (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic
    Plan.

  19. (E) Responsible for contributing to Equal
    Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives.

  20. Performs other duties as assigned.








Requirements:



Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree.

  • One to three years' experience with advising non-matriculated,
    non-traditional, under-represented and diverse students and
    communities.

  • Demonstrated experience in higher education, preferably in a
    student support, advising, retention, admissions or in an adult
    learning support role.

  • Knowledge of current effective practices in the operation and
    delivery of continuing education programs.

  • Ability to work with "newcomer" communities.

  • Experience with CRM, SIS systems and data entry systems.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within an academic
    community.

  • Ability to successfully pass a thorough background check.

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with
    or without reasonable accommodation.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master's degree.

  • Two to four years of experience in developmental academic
    advising.

  • Ability to take charge; directing, motivating and coordinating
    the activities of others. Achieving results through effective
    delegation.

  • Ability to brainstorm, assessing department priorities and
    being an active and flexible member of the Division of Graduate
    & Continuing Education. The ability to work effectively across
    divisions.

  • Ability to evaluate, assess and recommend ways of improving our
    services and programs.

  • Ability to determine the relevant facts and ideas in a
    situation, recognizing the range of options available, integrating,
    synthesizing, evaluating the information, and drawing conclusions
    as to whether or not options will work.

  • Ability to conduct needs assessments and marketing research
    activities; developing programs that meet client needs and pricing
    them for the market; advertising programs appropriately; and
    earning public understanding and respect for the institution's
    offerings.

  • Ability to develop new partnerships and alliances with
    individuals inside and outside the institution.




Additional Information:



This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position.
The firm starting annual salary range for this position is $55,000
- $65,000, commensurate with relevant professional experience and
education.
