As a Mechanical Engineer II on the Building Data Center & Connectivity (BDCC) R&D engineering team, you will be instrumental in developing mechanical apparatus for fiber optic and copper telecommunication products to support high-speed networks of the future. The role involves utilizing design skills to build solutions that tackle customer problems, are reliable, minimize costs, and are easy to manufacture.

How You'll Help Us Connect The World
  • Participate in multiple product development and cost reduction team efforts. Meets project targets and deadlines.
  • Create documentation of product requirements based on industry standards.
  • Build innovative designs of new components and assemblies.
  • Create documentation to support the release of new and modified products. Clearly and concisely documents own work.
  • Support the optical and mechanical testing of fiber optic products.
  • Work with Manufacturing on process development and introductions of new products into Manufacturing.
  • Perform data analysis and evaluation. Independently analyzes and solves well-defined problems with little direction/supervision.
  • Project Management of specific activities related to self and others.
  • Perform failure analysis.
  • Write test reports detailing the results of testing.
  • Review and approve product design and engineering change documentation for conformance to company, customer, agency, and industry specifications and standards.
  • Generate Records of Inventions for innovations and pursue intellectual property protection. Develop awareness of competitive products and IP position.
  • Ability to deliver technical improvements to existing products/processes/services where feasible resulting in cost reductions or quality improvement.
  • Contributes positively to the knowledge base within CommScope.
  • Collaborating with Field Application Engineering to assure that products are usable by the customer in an application setting.
  • Participation in process improvement efforts and group training
Required Qualifications for Consideration
  • BSME or equivalent degree
  • 2 or more years of related experience
You Will Excite Us if You Have
  • CREO experience
  • Experience with FEA (ANSYS, Pro/Mechanical) and related analytical tools
  • Knowledge/experience with engineering tools such as LEAN and/or 6-sigma, DMAIC or other improvement process, DoE, FMEA, MSA, uncertainty.
  • Experience with design of fiber optic and/or Ethernet products used in Enterprise and Carrier markets per international and Domestic standards (ISO, IEC, TIA 568, GR-326, Telcordia, IEEE, etc.).
  • Solid communication skills including excellent writing skills
  • Skilled at planning and ability to pay attention to details
  • Ability to effectively work within a team environment
  • Ability to deliver technical improvements to existing products/processes/services
  • Ability to perform tolerance analysis and apply geometric tolerancing
  • Understanding principles of design for manufacturing (injection molding, stamping dies, plating, and sheet metal fabrication process)
