Description

Georgia Pacific is seeking a Sr. Research Engineer / Scientist at our building products Laboratory in Decatur, GA. The role creates value by identifying, developing, and commercializing market-focused innovative solutions for GP building products industry. We use creative and inventive skills to conceptualize and engage the scientific method to profitably translate existing and new technologies into our marketspace. The ideal candidate will have experience or a scientific background in a field that relates to building products.

This role is based out of our Decatur Technical Center (just outside Atlanta, GA). The Decatur center primarily focuses on Georgia-Pacific building products R&D efforts and includes a state-of-the-art analytical lab with extensive application testing capabilities. What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Demonstrate the virtues consistent with Georgia-Pacific’s Principle Based Management (PBM®) and Guiding Principles
  • Lead projects at various stages in the innovation pipeline (ideation, scouting, prototyping, product testing, and commercialization)
  • Communicate project results with key stake holders of various technical levels across multiple capabilities within GP Building Products, including senior leadership
  • Conduct reviews of literature and patents to identify potential technologies that can be leveraged in building products
  • Utilize good project and time management to lead multiple projects at various levels of prioritization
  • Work with associate scientists and engineers to conduct laboratory and pilot scale prototyping and testing for initial screening of technologies

The Experience You Will Bring

Requirements:

  • Qualified applicants must meet one or more of the three sub-bullets listed below:
      • PhD with 3+ years of demonstrated innovation experience
      • Master’s degree with 5+ years of demonstrated innovation experience
      • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of demonstrated innovation experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Engineering, Building Science
  • Innovation experience in material science related disciplines ( i.e. polymers/ chemistry, composites/non-woven, ceramics)
  • Experience communicating technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Experience advancing projects through the product development life cycle ( i.e. ideation to commercialization/ implementation)
  • Experience with Design of Experiment (DOE), scientific observations, data analysis, and statistical analysis
  • Experience reading, synthesizing, and developing intellectual property

What Will Put You Ahead

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Sciences & Engineering
  • Product development / manufacturing experience in nonwoven glass mat, specialty glass mat, concrete, or adjacent building product industries
  • Experience and knowledge of building materials, construction, and building science
