Clinical Data Quality Abstractor



POSITION LOCATION:

POSITION SUMMARY:



Job Description:



  • Serve as the clinical data quality subject matter expert and the first escalation point of

  • abstraction data quality issues and queries of the internal and external abstraction teams

  • and a cross-functional team of IT, engineering, data scientist, medical, and scientific staff

  • as it relates to clinical data and abstraction activity

  • Work with software engineers and developers to design the creation and development of

  • workflows to monitor and control the quality of abstracted data by translating business

  • requirements to technical requirements and specifications

  • Develop abstraction QA and QC governance frameworks, workflows, policies, and

  • procedures and ensure the program is producing high-quality abstracted data

  • Establish acceptable and unacceptable quality standards and methodologies for

  • monitoring and controlling

  • Design and implement corrective measures and provide abstraction supervisors with

  • frequent quality metrics

  • Conduct abstraction data quality auditing, validation, and tracking using automated

  • means using quality assessment reports

  • Generate and monitor abstraction quality accuracy rates and other performance related

  • metrics of the clinical data abstraction team, internal and external

  • Independently advise the Business Operations Manager and Director on best data quality

  • and management practices for ensuring the production of high-quality data

  • Create and maintain data dictionaries, data mapping files, and all necessary standard

  • operating procedures, guidelines, and workflows pertaining to data quality

  • Provide statistical reports on patient data or trends as a result of abstraction efforts (strong

  • data analysis skills)

  • Create data analysis reports & regularly communicate quality trends. Monitoring all data

  • anomalies

  • Query raw abstracted data to determine root-cause of data abstraction errors

  • Write and/or run data query to assess data quality

  • Support engineering team in structuring and analyzing abstracted data by creating

  • supportive documentation, working instructions, and hosting workshops

  • Perform clinical data abstraction across cancer, women's health, and organ health/chronic

  • diseases, as needed

  • Build and maintain ongoing strong working relationships with stakeholders, with a focus

  • on building effective communication channels

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Guide the implementation of established quality frameworks




The essentials



  • This role works with Protected Health Information (PHI) regularly both in paper and

  • electronic form and has access to various technologies to access PHI (paper and

  • electronic) to perform the job

  • Employees must complete HIPAA/PHI privacy training, General Policies and Procedure

  • Compliance training, and security training. Must maintain a current status on Natera

  • training requirements

  • Employees must pass a post-offer criminal background check


QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Master's degree in health sciences, bioinformatics, or related field, at minimum and 3

  • year of clinical data abstraction or clinical data management experience, or

  • Bachelor's degree in health science or health related field and a minimum of 5 years of

  • clinical data abstraction experience

  • Clinical data abstraction or data management experience requires direct experience

  • performing medical record abstraction across multiple platforms (paper records, different

  • electronic medical record systems, EDC, registries, etc.)

  • Currently certified Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Nurses (only candidates

  • with such certifications will be considered) or currently certified foreign medical

  • graduates

  • Must have some SQL experience

  • Must have a minimum of 4 years of experience in clinical data quality review and

  • monitoring, which includes leading data quality programs and teams

  • Must have experience working within startup abstraction programs, as well supporting

  • the strategic direction of long-term abstraction programs

Duties are typically performed in an office setting. This position requires the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone and read printed material.
