JOB SUMMARY

As a trusted hospital custodian for the University of Michigan hospital you will maintain the cleanliness of the building by cleaning the assigned area of work and equipment including floors, furniture, and walls. Sweep, mop, strip, and wax floors. Maintain entrance areas and grounds around the building by sweeping and leaf blowining. Clean restrooms and unplug commodes, urinals, and sink drains without dismantling fixtures, and stock restroom supplies. Clean walls, blinds, mirrors and other fixtures. Collect and transport waste materials to designated areas. Maintain inventory of supplies. Clean and wax all furniture, cases, fixtures, and furnishings, and move or arrange furniture. Open or lock buildings or rooms

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

· Assigned cleaning duties mentioned above.

· Operating mechanical with appropriate training

WHAT IS REQUIRED

· Must have a High school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English and be able to follow instructions.

· Must have a positive attitude with good customer relation skills.

· Must be able to perform a wide range of physical activities including pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, etc.

· Must not have any type of lifting restrictions.

· Must be able to work around sick and disabled patients (children and adults) within a hospital setting.

· Must be a team player, able to prioritize work and be able to handle stress on a daily basis.

· Must be able to perform all tasks listed on the Unit Custodian Classification Description.

Work Schedule

This is full-time, 40-hour per week position working various shifts.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

BACKGROUND SCREENING

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
