Description


This hire will play a key role at the company.  You will leverage your cumulative knowledge to work directly with management, internal auditors, and external auditors to oversee the ongoing annual SOX program. You will bring a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluating the effectiveness of the Company’s governance, risk management, compliance, and control practices. You will help us collaborate across functional teams and functional leadership.  As program owner, lead efforts to ensure consistency of attestation policies and standards implementation across business processes and the effectiveness and quality of controls, testing procedures and testing results.


 


Responsibilities:



  • Be a trusted advisor on internal controls within the organization and provide a reliable and insightful resource for business leaders and control owners;

  • Direct and lead the design and management of the internal control audit program, supervise and perform testing of internal controls in collaboration with internal audit and a third-party strategic partner to ensure continued compliance with all regulatory guidelines (SOX, Model Audit Rule, PCAOB, and COSO);

  • Ensure the consistency of the company attestation policies and standards across all processes and the quality and accuracy of work performed by attestation team members.

  • Critically evaluate current set of in-scope controls and recommend ways to optimize controls;

  • Maintain regular communication with process owners to provide oversight and guidance on control design, operating effectiveness, nature and degree of supporting evidence to validate execution of controls, ongoing change management and effective monitoring of controls;

  • Collaborate and provide recommendations to functional groups in the development of policies and procedures impacting business activities;

  • Assess the impact of business or organization changes on internal controls, provide control points and risk considerations;

  • Work closely with the IT organization to maximize integration of business process and IT general and application controls;

  • Coordinate with external auditors to ensure effective communication between management and auditors. Maximize external auditors’ reliance on the work of others. Respond to review comments and ensure resolution to any issues identified in testing;

  • Lead the reporting of operational and design effectiveness. Evaluate deficiencies, including discussion with management and remediation plans

  • Review and analyze attestations reports (SSAE18) for service providers

  • Coordinate/lead training programs as it relates to internal controls/SOX compliance


Qualifications



  • BS/BA degree in Accounting/Finance. Would be ideal to have CIA, CPA or CISA.

  • Minimum 7 years of total experience in accounting and/or audit functions. Big four experience is preferred.

  • Prior management experience is a plus.

  • Experience in the insurance industry is a plus.
