Associate Director, Education Needs Assessment

The American College of Cardiology (ACC) is committed to transforming cardiovascular care and improving heart health through the delivery of relevant education for cardiovascular caregivers. Given the Education Division’s role in developing offerings that address the broad needs of the cardiovascular healthcare specialist community the Education Needs Assessment Associate will work both independently and in collaboration with others across the College and our membership to coordinate the identification of knowledge, attitudinal, and performance gaps.  The Associate’s primary role is to support the integration of multiple sources (e.g., interviews, focus groups, peer-reviewed literature, registry data, and activity-level outcomes data) into educational needs assessment, and to coordinate communication with and through Member Sections, as relevant, to assist with curating and prioritizing educational gaps that may be addressed through the College’s education curriculum.  This role is intended to serve as a bridge to leverage the resources of various education needs within the College to ensure needs-based education is designed and developed for greater impact. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work across departments and divisions to curate relevant key outputs from other areas of the College (e.g., QI Tools, Market Intelligence, Clinical Pathways, NCDR, Advocacy) for the integration of needs into comprehensive “gap tables.”  


• Create and maintain schedule to coordinate pathway or disease state-level needs assessment documentation and track progress of all document development to ensure timely completion of all components to meet target dates and make adjustments to meet internal and external deadlines.


• Support and establish evolution of the methodologies and processes used to develop pathway or disease state-level needs assessment leveraging ACC member and data resources.


• Develop and maintain a framework and process for linking identified educational gaps to lifelong learning competencies.


• Lead effort to develop a solution to improve usability and efficient accessibility of educational gaps and needs data based on key parameters (e.g., disease state/pathway, competency, priority level)


• Support the Curriculum Design Committee (CDC) as the primary staff liaison to work groups within the Committee associated with member oversight for educational need identification, prioritization, and dissemination


• Coordinate with Member Section Leadership Councils to ensure their perspectives are represented and incorporate feedback into processes (e.g., interviews, focus groups, or surveys)


• Participate in meetings with industry partners, as needed.


• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree or higher in a health-related field, or equivalent work experience.


• At least two years of experience in medical or scientific writing.


• Skill in conducting literature searches using PubMed and other publication databases.


• Ability to comprehend and evaluate articles describing current best practices, findings from clinical trials, and advances in cardiovascular care.


• Ability to analyze and discern meaning from descriptive data and statistical analysis.


• Excellence in preparing precise, succinct, and grammatically correct written materials.


• Strong oral communication skills necessary to lead discussions with both members and colleagues.


• Creative, flexible, organized, and results-oriented with the ability to prioritize set deadlines with minimal supervision.


• Excellent interpersonal and consensus-building skills required to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders (staff, committee members, collaborators, etc.).


• Proficient with Windows-based office software products, especially MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.


• Ability to travel to support College and committee meetings as needed.

Desired Qualifications:

• Three to five years of work experience in related field that includes connectivity to cardiovascular medicine and/or a medical specialty society.


• Ability to build novel systems and processes for gathering, analyzing and reporting information.
