Job Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Sustaining Mechanical Engineer is to support Inogen’s existing products and platforms in cooperation with the New Product Development team. The Sustaining Mechanical Engineer is a key member of the Engineering team and ensures that Inogen’s products are in compliance with all current medical device regulations worldwide. In addition, you will be expected to address issues such as part obsolescence, CAPA’s, design improvements and complaint handling through root cause analysis. Key responsibilities include the implementation of design changes to address the issues listed above. The Sustaining Mechanical Engineer may also be assigned to focus their activities on existing product lines to make improvements to the user experience, quality, reliability, cost, and efficiency in manufacturing.

Responsibilities (Specific tasks, duties, essential functions of the job)
Mechanical Engineer III: In addition to items listed for Mechanical Engineer II, a Mechanical Engineer III may also be responsible for the following.

  • Responsible for FMEA of system subcomponents within the oxygen concentrator design as it relates to design improvements, failure analysis, etc.
  • Maintain vendor contact post launch to maintain relationships that offer cost-effective high-quality manufacturing of Inogen designs.
  • Lead projects and major design changes/improvements to existing products per the Inogen design change process.
  • Serve as a focal point as a subject matter expert for the Inogen line of oxygen concentrators.
  • Partner with manufacturing on an as needed basis to review manufacturing process changes for effectiveness and safety.
  • Mentor junior engineers in failure analysis techniques and tools.

  • Experience with injection molding
  • Experience with tight tolerance machining and die casting
  • Self-motivated and capable of self-direction
  • Experience with fabrication equipment
  • Highly motivated and able to act as a key part of the Engineering team
  • Desire and ability to perform hands-on prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting

Qualifications (Experience and Education) * Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline, required

  • MS Engineering preferred.
  • 5-8 years’ experience in mechanical engineering, required
  • Advanced knowledge/proficiency in Microsoft Office, Solidworks, and EPDM, required
  • Advanced knowledge/proficiency in ISO 9001 or ISO 13485, required
  • Advanced knowledge of manufacturing techniques, including plastic injection molding, die-casting, and machining, required
