Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Wetland Scientist for our Minneapolis, Minnesota or Milwaukee Wisconsin office. We are looking for an experienced scientist to support federal, state and local environmental permitting including field data collection efforts associated with wetlands delineations, endangered species habitat assessments, and environmental assessments. The position requires an understanding of federal, state, and local permitting efforts specific to the upper Mid-West region. This role will support several Arcadis clients in Minnesota and Wisconsin, including various energy development projects, including electrical transmission, natural gas pipeline and renewable energy projects. This position could report to either the Minnesota or Wisconsin office depending on preference.

Role accountabilities:

  • Assist with the development of permit applications including state and federal USACE Section 404/Section 10 permits and Section 401 Water Quality Certification; Conduct environmental assessments associated with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and state environmental review reviews.
  • Assist with writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda
  • Support field efforts including wetland determination/delineation surveys, flora/fauna surveys, and habitat assessments; as well as the completion of associated reporting
  • Complete data collection during field surveys using Trimble GeoX handheld units and tablets utilizing Collector and Survey 123 for ArcGIS
  • Lead agency consultations regarding threatened and endangered species, and supporting species and habitat surveys
  • Manage desktop environmental assessments using GIS and other available methods to address potential permitting requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or similar environmental discipline
  • Experience supporting and/or leading wetland delineations using the U.S Army Corps of Engineers Midwest, Northeast, and/or Northcentral Regional Supplements
  • 1-3 years of experience supporting environmental permitting projects
  • Strong technical writing skill and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 year of experience leading a wetland delineation field team(s)
  • Professional Wetland Society In-Training (PWSIT) certification
  • Experience with ArcGIS, GoogleEarth and other desktop mapping applications
