Responsible for managing engineers that provide technical support and engineering solutions in maintaining the sustainment of C-17 Mechanical Systems.  Technical engineering disciplines include Landing Gear, wheels, tires and brake systems, Environmental Control Systems, OBIGGS, Fuel systems, Hydraulic systems, Firex, Mechanical Flight Controls & Mechanical Support Equipment.  Other responsibilities include supporting the multimillion dollar landing gear overhaul program, making sure landing gear non-conformance dispositions are completed in timely manner, as well as making sure the Component Maintenance Manual/ tech orders are kept up to date. 

Position Responsibilities:

• This position requires the ability to build close customer relationships with USAF customer, as well as providing technical oversight of engineer's technical approaches & responses to the customer.
• Work closely with project leads in the development of the Mechanical System Integrity Program (MECSIP) in accordance with MIL-Std-1798C.   
• Other important relationships include internal customers, such as with supply chain to assist in developing solutions to shortages, obsolescence, competitions, second sourcing and/or repairs.  
• This role requires the ability to engage in development of both on-site and remote employees, helping establish priorities and keep work force motivated to execute flawlessly. 
• Develop, execute and maintain departmental budget plan, by working to establish key priorities and identify resource opportunities and or work efficiencies, as required. 
• Responsibility for maintaining budget targets.  Maintain, edit and develop processes, as required.  

Security Clearance:

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

• 3+ years of experience in engineering management or technical management
• 5+ years of experience with Mechanical Systems Design including electro-mechanical and flight control systems
• Experience as a CAM (cost account manager) in EVM (earned value management) or similar
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, or foreign equivalent
• 3+ years of experience working on military aircraft

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

• Experience with the C-17 aircraft
• Experience with aircraft/weapon system design and sustainment
• Experience working with industry and military specifications and standards requirements and processes
• Experience working within accepted project management standards in the industry with any one or a combination of the following: Project management Institute (PMI), Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), Application, Development, & Sustaining (AD&S
• Experience with conducting quality investigations, Root Cause analysis and implementation and verification of Corrective Actions in production environments

Typical Education and/or Experience Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and typically 10 or more years' related work experience, a Master's degree and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Relocation:

This position does not offer relocation.  Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Hybrid/Telecommute:

This Hybrid position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. (Long Beach, CA.)

Summary pay range: 139,400 - 188,600
