SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Coding & CDI, the Clinical Coding Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily coding operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures that Center coding teams are operating efficiently and effectively.
- Manages daily time and attendance for all Coding personnel.
- Serves as a resource and mentor for coding personnel.
- Audits coders on a regular basis to ensure compliance with the Official ICD-10-CM Coding Guidelines and the A/B Coding System.
- Assists in the creation of algorithms that will be used for risk adjustment as well as any other reports and processes used for the proper capture of patient diagnoses.
- Manages a variety of assigned projects.
- Provides coding guidance and education to all physicians.
- Ensures that all yearly coding changes are properly implemented and maintained.
- Ensures that all aspects of Billing and Coding are maintained appropriately within company systems.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with company procedures, rules and regulations
- Maintains open channels of communication with other company departments.
- Answers all inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
- Participates in training and in-service education as required.
- Participates in department, clinic and other meetings as requested.
- Complies with Leon Medical Centers' policies and procedures and maintains confidentiality of patient information in accordance with state and federal laws.
- Performs other duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
The Clinical Coding Manager must have superior knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology as well as basic pharmacology. Individual must possess knowledge of human disease and it manifestations. Knowledge of ICD-10-CM coding and ICD-10-CM coding concepts is required. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization, as well as with external sources. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Ability to function under a stressful environment and meet a variety of deadlines. Individual should be detail-oriented and possess strong research and analysis skills. Must have a minimum of five (5) years of coding experience. Demonstrated management skills are essential.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Coding Certificate from an Accredited Coding Program or equivalent work experience required. Coding certification (CPC, CPC-H, CCS, CCS-P) from a National Organization such as AHIMA or AAPC, in hospital and physician coding, respectively.
