Title: Digital Health Data Architect

Digital Health Organization Overview

Lilly’s Digital Health organization is committed to furthering the promise of digital therapeutics though exploring and delivering the next generation of therapeutic ecosystems – combining connected devices, analytics, digital biomarkers, sensors, mobile medical applications and a wealth of data sources to augment biological therapeutics and personalize healthcare delivery.

Position Description

The Data Architect is responsible for the overall design and content quality of Digital Health data systems, as well as the associated data flows from upstream producers and to downstream consumers. The role works in partnership with Enterprise Architecture, Digital Health solution delivery teams, internal organizations, industry standards bodies and external parties to assure the successful implementation of business objectives.

Primary Position Responsibilities 

  • Provide technical leadership for Digital Health data flow initiatives.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in industry data exchange standards (e.g. HL7/FHIR, CDISC) and craft transformations of Digital Health data to/from representations in these standards as required.
  • Develop and provide expertise in clinical and commercial data domains including data relationships, quality, and flows (e.g., to Statistical Analysis and Patient Data Capabilities).
  • Obtain and maintain expertise in technologies used for Information Management including information integration, business intelligence, and knowledge management.
  • Bring external knowledge from industry data standards and privacy bodies into Digital Health solution delivery; likewise, actively contribute to the state-of-the-art through interactions with such external bodies.
  • Work with Enterprise Architecture to orchestrate data-related outcomes across Lilly business domains where Digital Health participation is required.
  • Participate in data governance activities as Digital Health liaison.
  • Partner with Digital Health delivery teams to ensure clear and consistent technical implementation of data models, patterns, and best practices.
  • Lead development and maintenance of logical and physical data model designs for information access, exchange, and integration initiatives.
  • Build and maintain data models of Digital Health persistence layers and their associated data inventories/dictionaries.
  • Provide technical insight to anticipate and resolve key data-related problems across the Digital Health product portfolio.
  • Partner with service provider(s) to ensure key data principles are met and maintained.
  • Steward application of data privacy regulations to Digital Health data exchange, both internally and externally.
  • Craft data contracts/interfaces between Digital Health-developed products and data consumers. Work with all parties to implement interface change control as required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or related discipline.
  • At least 7+ years of professional experience designing, building and/or operating information systems within a life science organization.
  • Experience with data modeling, data query languages, and industry data standards.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Leadership experience in delivery of complex IT projects.
  • Familiarity with Agile software methodologies, development of commercially available SaMD products, and the tenants of Design Control.
  • Passion for learning new technical disciplines; especially in the data standards, information management and data quality domains.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence peers and build professional relationships.
  • Evidence of self-starting organizational problem solving – finding ways around roadblocks to get desired outcomes with tact and respect for professional rules of conduct.
