What you will be doing


This role is responsible for financial management of the business segment with the largest customer partnerships within AmerisourceBergen.


Under the direction of the Senior Vice President Finance, the Senior Director -Finance leads efforts to drive attainment of AmerisourceBergen sales and profitability goals partnering with executive commercial business leaders using empirical financial data, predictive / informative analytics, and technology enabled commercial programs & solutions.


This role collaborates with commercial segments in making individual customer and segment related decisions within the context of impact to the overall business portfolio relative to near-term and long-term objectives. This role would be leading a team of managers and analysts.




  • Develops and leads a team dedicated to evaluating and recommending strategies and tactics within the commercial portfolio in support of sales and margin optimization goals & objectives.




  • Coordinates and documents input from sales channel leads that impacts changes to the annual estimate.




  • Responsible for the coordination of advances in the annual plan process, estimation of annual performance, and monthly reporting.




  • During the annual plan process, coordinates the sales channel activities in accordance with the overall plan calendar




  • Major customer management - largest customer partnerships.




  • Responsible for implementing, managing, and measuring the performance of sales, margin enhancement, and contracting solutions & programs; monitoring and adjusting as needed based upon prevailing marketplace dynamics.




  • Collaborates with other units within AB to ensure effectiveness of customer profitability modeling to encompass enterprise views.




  • Leads efforts in building out margin and pricing targets and thresholds by channel, class of trade, or customer to drive the desired customer and metrics mix, including gross margin enhancement.




  • Manages the development of alternative portfolio scenarios, linked to the new business pipeline or customer renewal cycle.




  • Integrates with Global Sourcing and Sales to understand anticipated supplier and customer projections to be used in future portfolio monitoring.




  • Works with the commercial units in driving consistency in deal/pricing practices and approaches to contract structures.




  • Leads and participates in financial data stewardship activities.




  • Seeks out improvement opportunities that are geared towards improved business performance.




  • Key owner for ensuring organizational alignment and adherence to instituted pricing & contracting policies, principles, escalations, and authorizations.




  • Strives for continuous process improvement, standardization, and simplification in assigned areas.




  • Generates ad hoc analysis and reports as needed.



  • Performs related duties as assigned.


What your background should look like


Requires broad training in fields such as business administration, pricing, marketing, economics, statistics, mathematics, engineering, computer science, strategy, finance or similar vocations generally obtained through completion of a four-year bachelor's degree program or equivalent combination of experience and education. Requires minimum ten (10) years directly related and progressively responsible experience, including at least five years' experience in analytics and project/process management and at least five years' experience at a manager level.




  • Thorough understanding of company philosophy, strategic direction, goals and objectives in order to make effective use of company resources for short- and long-range financial needs.




  • Able to work effectively with senior management to develop business strategy and tactical implementation plans.




  • Ability to influence and navigate change.




  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment to resolve issues effectively and efficiently.




  • Skilled at process development / improvement efforts toward simplification, standardization and adherence to governance frameworks.




  • Advanced expertise in financial / mathematical / statistical modeling and analysis.




  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.




  • Strong presentation skills.




  • Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills.




  • Ability to work in a heavily cross-functional environment.




  • Excellent leadership skills; ability to lead team initiatives and facilitate team meetings.




  • Ability to work independently, with limited supervision.




  • Very strong organizational and time management skills.




  • Strong attention to detail.




  • Fluency in Microsoft Suite applications (Word, Project, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).



  • May be required to travel occasionally for business meetings (less than 10%)
