Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Director of the Office of Digital Learning (ODL) will be responsible for developing a comprehensive strategy for delivering high-quality online degree and non-degree programs with the goal of growing online enrollment and broadening the audiences of learners engaging in innovative education at the Smith School of Business. The Director works in partnership with administration, faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders to establish strategic priorities and vision for online programming and administrative oversight and ensure programs are innovative, scalable, and grounded in learning theory and best practices that meet high-quality standards for learner-centered course development and delivery in the online teaching/learning environment at the Smith School. The Director works with Smith faculty and academic units to identify and develop high-potential degree and certificate programs, grow enrollment, and play a key role in the acquisition of necessary technology and infrastructure. In addition, this role will work with corporate, public, and non-profit partners to identify and develop opportunities for online learning that meets the needs of the regional and national workforce. They will be responsible for working with the various spheres of interaction within the ODL to facilitate program development, project management of online learning efforts, and overall evaluation of the various elements of the Office and its programming.

Minimum Qualifications:
Masters's Degree in an education-related field (e.g., educational psychology, learning science, curriculum and instruction, instructional design) or MBA with significant experience in course pedagogy, curriculum development, or instructional design.
At least 5-10 years of professional experience managing, directing or coordinating instructional design or educational programs.
At least five years of supervisory experience.
Experience developing and managing budgets.
Excellent communication and motivational skills, including a proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty and administrators.
Demonstrated ability to strategically plan, think, and manage.
Knowledge of learning sciences, instructional design theory and methodology, and best practices in pedagogy.
Knowledge of future trends and innovations in learning and higher education.
Appreciation for multiple instructional delivery methods, including face-to-face, blended, and online.
Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and work collaboratively within and across units.
Ability to develop strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders to increase organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
Strong bias for action and ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Data-driven approach to decision making.

Preferences:
PhD preferred in Education or related field. At least three years of experience teaching or working with faculty at the post-secondary level, with a demonstrated record of instructional excellence.
At least one year of experience at a research university.
Experience working in a large corporation, in business development, or with large donors to develop relationships and raise funds.
Experience working with Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and/or online courses.
Knowledge of educational psychology literature as it applies to teaching and learning, curriculum development, course design, teaching approaches, and methodologies, and assessment of student learning.
Ability to create strong ties with corporate partners who are interested in enhancing learning experiences for students.
Experience with learning management systems: e.g., Canvas LMS.
A proven record of research design and publications related to pedagogy and learning.
Proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative analysis and research methods.
