Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)


The Insurance & Claims Analyst will be responsible for managing and administrating the department’s information risk management system, insurance compliance with third party contracts, and day to day administration of certain lines of insurance coverage. In addition, this position will provide support to others within the department and lead various projects as requested.


Job Responsibilities


  • Works with the Manager of Insurance to develop reports, complete insurance applications, and develop extensive underwriting data needed for operational projects and the Corporate Property and Cargo Insurance Programs. Also, provide assistance on the Casualty and Management Liability Insurance Programs as needed. Works with brokers and underwriters as necessary.

  • Maintain Riskonnect Risk Management Information database including data related to policies and endorsements for Corporate Insurance Program. Act as “Super User” for the system and perform duties as necessary to allow appropriate individuals access to system. Work with outside service provider to integrate new data as needed and trouble shoot problem issues with system for the department.

  • Maintain information concerning the insurance program and disseminate information to plant sites as appropriate.

  • Provides insurance certificates to third parties as required by written contracts. Ensures certificates meet, but do not exceed, requirements in contracts.

  • Works with internal compliance and asset management departments to ensure certificates of insurance and compliance letters are issued and maintained to meet contract requirements. In addition, works with internal departments for waiver requests to third parties when insurance program doesn’t meet contract requirements. Maintains approved waiver documentation and ensures Calpine is not in breach of any contract without a proper waiver approval in place.

  • Handles insurance premium billings including processing invoices, allocations and surplus lines taxes and fee filings with various states. Follow up with broker for states in which the broker handles the surplus lines filings. Maintain documentation for return premiums and allocations. Ensure that return premiums are collected and coded to appropriate accounting codes.

  • Processes and works with captive insurance manager on invoices and other documentation for the captive insurance company.

  • Acts as primary point of contact for insurance department intranet content. Updates webpage as needed and ensure all data is accurate.

  • Works with the Claims Manager to report property claims to appropriate carriers and/or parties as directed. Also, may assist with Casualty and Management Liability claims as needed. Follow up as needed to flag for further action and/or finalization of claims.

  • Assist with contract review for certain types of contracts including consulting contracts and continuing services agreements. Work with third party vendor and other internal personnel on issues regarding vendor certificates of insurance and compliance.

  • General administrative duties, including but not limited to, open and process mail, arrange meetings, administer expense reports, file policies, endorsements and other insurance related documentation for the insurance department.

  • Other projects or duties as requested by the department.


Job Requirements


  • Minimum of 7 years experience in analytical or administrative position, preferably in insurance related field. Experience with capital intensive company highly desirable.

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills together with good interpersonal skills.

  • Strong analytical skills. Must be detail oriented and have the ability to effectively multi-task projects.

  • Knowledge of computer software programs necessary. Preferred experience with Microsoft related programs. Experience with RiskConnect or other Risk Information Management System desired.

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent related job experience in insurance industry.
