Our Controllership team is looking for an Accounting Manager to oversee complex balance sheet areas. The role will involve the preparation and review of month end related deliverables, responsibility for leading process improvement and automation projects, and significant collaboration with various stakeholders across a variety of functions, most notably Treasury, Workspace Services, Sales, Collections, Support ,Tax and FP&A teams. Shopify is a fast paced, rapidly changing environment and, as such, the role will also require assisting with a variety of accounting related projects.

Responsibilities:

• Owning the accounting for key balance sheet areas, most notably cash and marketable securities, fixed assets, intangibles, leases, accounts receivable and derivative instruments
• Assisting with the preparation and review of financial statement disclosures
• Leading a variety of process improvement and automation projects.

• 7 years of progressive experience in financial accounting roles
• A professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA, or CPA)
• Strong proficiency in US GAAP and/or IFRS
• Superb Excel and Google Sheets skills along with strong analytical skills, with the ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis
• Experience leading a team - unlocking your team s potential, leveraging their strengths to work effectively, identifying areas of opportunity for growth, and providing the space to improve and make impact
• An ability to prioritize your workload and a flexible/adaptable nature that will thrive in Shopify's fast paced environment
• A proven attention to detail and an ability to work independently
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

It'll be great if you have experience in:

• Previous experience in overseeing complex balance sheet areas such as intangibles, leases and derivative instruments
• Previous experience at a publicly traded tech company reporting in US GAAP or IFRS
• Previous experience in managing month end close procedures
