Job Summary:

The Senior Manager of Technical Accounting and SOX Compliance will be an integral team member of the Corporate Accounting leadership team and report to the Director of Technical Accounting and SOX Compliance. This individual will be heavily involved in researching and applying technical accounting literature to complex transactions. This individual will also support the execution of the company's SOX Compliance strategy by assisting in the management of the company's SOX program, including making meaningful contribution to the design and implementation of controls and tracking compliance metrics.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead accounting literature research and apply technical standards to complex business issues and transactions.
  • Lead research and preparation of position papers and policy memos documenting conclusions.
  • Stay abreast of existing and emerging financial accounting and reporting principles and assessing their applicability to Vail Resorts.
  • Educate accounting and finance staff on accounting changes and regulatory requirements, due diligence support and purchase accounting for new acquisitions and complete special projects as assigned.
  • Maintain strong working relationships and coordination with Vail Resorts' financial reporting team to ensure high quality financial reporting
  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholder groups to understand the business and ensure timely and accurate exchange of information.
  • Develop of enterprise policies that facilitate a strong internal control environment.
  • Contribute to the preparation of information essential to the understanding and assessment of internal controls, including risk and control matrices, process narratives and/or flowcharts of processes
  • Assist in the training and development of operations personnel to support compliance with established processes and controls
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or a related business field.
  • MBA or Masters of Science Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline strongly preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
  • Six to eight years of experience in public accounting, an accounting role with a large public company, or combination of both. Experience auditing the internal control over financial reporting of publicly traded companies strongly preferred.
  • Self-starter with a drive for excellence, ability to build strong working relationships and motivate others to achieve their best performance.
  • Expert technical accounting knowledge (U.S. GAAP required, IFRS desired), SEC regulations and internal controls.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills.
  • A service-oriented individual that continually challenges the status quo and focuses on continuous improvement.
  • Proven track record for successful completion of accounting guidance-related projects, preferably a demonstrated ability to lead implementation efforts associated with new accounting standards.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments dynamic and changing environment
  • Ability to lead, work independently, and work in a team environment.
  • Be detail-oriented and have highly proficient skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.

The budgeted range starts at $89,100 - $115,000 + annual bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
