Position Summary...

What you'll do...

We are hiring a Head of Medical Affairs that will support the following:

Leads a cross-functional Chief Medical Officer (CMO) office strategy, in collaboration with subject-matter experts, internal product and portfolio management teams, and business partners in order to publish high-impact scientific and medical research.
  • Prioritizes, executes, examines, and edits high-impact abstracts and presentations, peer-reviewed articles, and white papers that align with Walmart's Health & Wellness strategy. Demonstrates the ability to write and edit scientific articles, posters, and abstracts with a medically strategic perspective.
  • Works cross-functionally within the CMO office and with key business partners to implement company strategies and initiatives.


Creates and implements a life-cycle research plan.
  • Leads the publication strategy for key publication methods (for example, congress abstracts, presentations, manuscripts, white papers) in collaboration with internal and external subject-matter experts.
  • Authors articles, presents at national and international gatherings, and collaborates with cross-functional colleagues and thought leaders to fulfill publishing plan objectives.
  • Analyzes, interprets, and conveys scientific and medical insights to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identifies and successfully communicates with thought leaders in order to engage in scientific and medical exchange and to fully understand unmet medical needs and data gaps.
  • Convenes clinical advisory boards on a quarterly basis. Attends and represents the company at scientific conferences as needed.


Guides and oversees publication vendors and manages publication budgets.
  • Coordinates medical writing with internal and external medical writers to guarantee timely publication delivery and submission.
  • Establishes and maintains successful intellectual partnerships with key opinion leaders in science and medicine, as well as healthcare professionals.
  • Leads and interacts with multidisciplinary groups to facilitate decision-making discussions.
  • Effectively uses publication practices (for example, GPP) and aids in the implementation of established publication processes.


Supports Clinical Affairs by utilizing scientific communications, publications, and medical information, as well as working with field medical, pharmacy, dental clinical leads, and marketing and communication teams, to provide support, including reactive material development, to address internal and external stakeholder questions.

Maintains knowledge of, and ensures compliance with, applicable guidelines, laws, industry standards, best practices, and corporate policies throughout all workstreams.
  • Maintains a high degree of clinical and scientific expertise in multiple clinical areas by reviewing literature, attending medical and scientific meetings, and interacting with consultants, thought leaders, investigators, and internal stakeholders.


Supports the CMO in developing a consistent scientific communications strategy throughout Walmart Health & Wellness.
  • Works with key stakeholders under tight timelines and maintains an organizational structure to efficiently achieve goals and objectives.


Supports and collaborates with the Vice President of Clinical Performance on data gathering and generating activities (for example, medical affairs studies that address unmet medical needs, underdeveloped opportunities, data gaps).
  • Creates, enhances, and integrates collection tools, instruments, and databases.
  • Acquires and leverages existing industry technologies for measuring health and wellness indicators that are not currently available through Walmart Health.
  • Innovates in order to assist in the development or acquisition of novel technologies for measuring health and wellness metrics.

Minimum Qualifications...

Outlined below are the required minimum qualifications for this position. If none are listed, there are no minimum qualifications.

Doctor of Medicine degree.
5 years' experience in clinical trial research in an academic or industrial setting, with experience in analysis of research data and publications.
3 years' experience as an attending physician in cardiology, endocrinology, internal medicine, or other relevant medical specialty area.
2 years' experience in pharmaceutical or biotech industry, including the management of clinical trials or clinical development programs.
Knowledge of relevant industry guidelines and current standards for Good Publication Practice (GPP3)
2 years' experience with publications management databases (for example, Datavision).
2 years' experience with the development of medical publication strategy and management of consultants and vendors.
