Springer Nature's Editorial Excellence team seeks an enthusiastic, customer-focused individual to join the team as an Abstracting & Indexing Assistant. Sharing the leading reseach we publish in trusted, high qualilty abstracting and indexing services is one way that we at Springer Nature ensure the leading research we publish reaches the widest and most relevant audiences. These services include PubMed from the US National Library of Medicine and Clarivate's Web Of Science (which also assigns Journal Impact Factors), and remain critical as Springer Nature continues to lead the transition to open access research publishing. Our A&I Assistant is an integral member of the A&I team and one of the primary points of contact for our internal and external customers, includingresearch authors, journal publishers and editors, and our contacts at around 200 abstracting and indexing services. The successful candidate will be passionate about research and publishing, comfortable and proficient working with data, and will thrive in a collaborative, team-based environment where outstanding customer service is expected.
Under the general direction of the Head of Abstracting & Indexing, the A&I Assistant provide a wide range of services, including, but not limited to the following:
Key Responsibilities
Providing assistance in the daily activities of the Abstracting and Indexing Services
Reporting to and collaborating with the Head of Abstracting & Indexing (A&I) on Abstracting & Indexing data verification processes, coordinating data updates, and ensuring data integrity
Working with internal data systems for completeness and accuracy
Liaising with external database partners and colleagues in editorial, production, customer service, and Data Delivery System departments
Assisting in organizing the meetings with various A&I representatives and preparing agendas for the meetings
Preparing minutes and maintaining lists of pending items for follow-up
Coordinating and monitoring projects to ensure timely completion
The input of relevant data to systems, such as BFlux, JFlow, and various A&I tools/systems
Participates in departmental and working group meetings, committees, task forces, and special projects as needed. Assists staff with basic departmental coverage as needed. Assists with administrative tasks for the workgroup.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience, skills, and qualifications
College or university degree
Basic knowledge of bibliometrics
Be able to demonstrate awareness of publishing processes
Excellent English language skills
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent customer service skills
Excellent problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and team-working skills to deal with people at all levels both in the company and externally
Familiarity with searching various databases such as Web of Science, PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus
Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
Ability to explore alternatives and identify opportunities to improve procedures/workflows and practices
Ability to follow written instructions to learn various tasks without in-person training
Ability to follow instructions and adhere carefully to established procedures
Working with internal data systems for completeness and accuracy
Be resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries
Be numerate and computer-literate, work accurately with a sharp eye for detail
Be proficient in the use of office software
Be a diplomatic and assertive individual who is able to work with demanding stakeholders
Be flexible, proactive, and able to work in a multi-cultural environment and show a commercial/entrepreneurial spirit
Punctuality and reliability are required
The successful candidate will have a one-year of experience in a publishing company or library and possess excellent customer service skills and enjoy interacting with a varied clientele in a busy environment. Proficiency with basic indexing principles and familiarity with abstracting and indexing services are preferred.
