In order to meet these demands, candidates should be influential engineering leaders with deep technology expertise, and a collaborative style that brings others into the decision-making process.
This position, Director, Distinguished Engineer, is within the Cloud Enablement organization, supporting CloudX, which is our award-winning suite of tools for cloud cost tracking and optimization. We drive standards and solutions and help engineering teams across Capital One make best use of cloud resources while saving millions of dollars annually. We are also heavily involved in the FinOps community working with industry partners to shape the FinOps best practices. Responsibilities will include:
Define and drive strategy for enterprise Cloud architecture best practices and standards to maximize cloud use efficiency
Influence engineering practices across the enterprise to maximize benefits of operating in the cloud including spend efficiency, resiliency, security, and increased speed to market for features.
Seek out inefficiencies of enterprise cloud usage and patterns and define modern solutions that incorporates cloud best practices

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
At least 7 years' of software development experience using at least one of the following: Java, Go, Angular
At least 3 years' of experience with Open Source RDBMS
At least 3 years' of experience with Container Orchestration services (Docker, Kubernetes)
At least 3 years' of experience with public cloud technologies
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters' Degree in STEM
AWS Solutions Architect Certification - Professional
Published technical blogs and presented in internal/external conferences
10+ years of software development experience architecting & delivering enterprise platform solutions
7+ years of AWS Architecture experience
4+ years of experience developing applications in AWS
2+ years with data analytics and modeling
1+ years of experience with cloud financial management
1+ year experience with AWS financial management services (Ex: AWS Compute Optimizer)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Location is New York City- $260,592 and $307,440 for Distinguished EngineerLocation is Colorado- $220,854 and $260,558 for Distinguished EngineerCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
