As a part of Business Technology Services (a division of ITS), provides enterprise solutions and application development for the UC San Diego community. We deliver quality and reliable systems and services that help our campus continuously improve business processes. Our combined technical resources, including web, mainframe and infrastructure are the foundation of the applications we develop.

The Student Information Systems (SIS) team is responsible for supporting faculty, staff, and student transactions relating to university business processes. We strive to consistently deliver quality and reliable information systems that help our campus achieve its administrative goals. Our combined technical resources allow us to build, integrate, host and deliver campus-wide enterprise systems for both our institution and collaboratively with other campuses within the UC system. Additionally, the team offers custom integration and application development services, business analysis services and data management services for a variety of VC Areas, divisions and departments on the campus. The SIS team actively works as a business partner with our constituents to provide the highest levels of functionality, support, and innovation in all of our work.

More specifically, the Student Affairs Information Services (SAIS) group, which is a sub organization within Business Technology Services, is primarily responsible for building and supporting business applications utilized by the units under the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Applications Programmer 3 will work with integration tools like NiFi, Airflow and Kafka to remediate the current processes which use PHP and PowerShell platforms to prepare for the implementation of the new Student Information Systems. Also, support the ticketing and point of sales vended solutions providing data integrations as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Under supervision of the Service Offering Manager and as a member of the Student Affairs Information Services (SAIS) Team, the incumbent performs moderately complex development and integration services in support of the SAIS's online services. These services are critical to the implementation and maintenance of the units' Public Interface, the Intranet, and numerous other web sites and applications.

  • Designs, implements, tests, debugs, and documents custom client-server applications and various other applications using technologies such as PHP, C#, Power Shell, SharePoint, MSSQL, DB2 etc. Evaluates, installs, and configures moderately complex third party (commercial and/or open source) software applications.

  • Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced software professional with a full understanding of industry practices, community standards and relevant policies and procedures to medium-sized projects or portions of large projects with moderate scope and complexity.

  • Demonstrates competency in selecting tools, methods and techniques to obtain results.

  • Evaluates, installs, and configures moderately complex third party (commercial and/or open source) software applications.

  • Resolves a variety of programming design and implementation issues.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Intermediate knowledge of secure software development.

  • Advanced skills associated with software design, modification, implementation and deployment, including object-oriented programming concepts

  • Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs. Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans.

  • Demonstrated software repository skills. Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.

  • Thorough experience with common programming tools. Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications.

  • Proven experience of industry standard frameworks and protocols, such as .NET, MVC, SOAP, JQuery, & RESTful web services.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge in the design and development of complex databases on MSSQL and MySQL platforms.
