GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provides patient care, through all phases of the Endoscopy experience; admission through discharge according to established guidelines. Provides patient care activities to patients of diverse ages.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Prepares and evaluates patients prior to the procedure in an efficient and caring manner to provide for a smooth patient flow. May include doing pre-procedure phone calls to patients and/or physician offices to obtain information.

· Demonstrates the ability to organize work and enhance the safety and quality of patient care, service and treatment.

· Proficient in IV skills.

· Review charts to ensure completeness in documentation.

· Prepares for cases in an efficient manner, anticipating needs of the patient and physician.

· Provides a safe environment for customers: patient, family, physicians and staff.

· Collects and analyzes data and assesses patient in developing nursing diagnosis / plan of care.

· Communicates effectively with the patient, staff, physicians, families, and other health care team members.

· Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up and function.

· Initiates and directs procedure rooms, clean up and turnover.

· EKG interpretation.

· Ongoing physiological assessment through all phases of the Endoscopy experience.

· Utilize computer software for electronic medical record documentation (EMR).

· Actively assists physicians in a large variety of endoscopy procedures.

· Takes assigned call as defined per unit policy.
