Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to be based in our Tampa, FL office.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the following items:

• Design of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems as well as plumbing systems for large federal government, commercial, and institutional facilities
• Performing Construction Administration services, including review of shop drawings, RFI s and review of contractor proposed change orders
• Evaluating feasibility of alternative design approaches in conjunction with senior team members
• Performing site/field visits to ascertain existing conditions including equipment condition evaluations
• Organizing and planning projects to ensure quality controls and project criteria are met and within budget
• Assisting in preparing proposals and presenting to clients
• Assisting with mentoring of junior staff within the Mechanical Department
• Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer
• Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures
• Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests
• Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments
• Identifies discrepancies in results
• Provides guidance to entry level engineers
• Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision
• Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary designelements for engineering works
• Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited Mechanical Engineering Program and 4+ years of experience in mechanical design of HVAC and Plumbing systems for buildings
• Experience using AutoCAD and Revit
• US Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work performed

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficient in Building Load Calculation and Energy Modeling
• Proficient in the design of plumbing systems including sanitary, storm, and water distribution systems
• Professional Engineer (PE)
• Federal experience: NAVFAC, USACE, VAMC, DOD or USAF experience preferred
• Works well with others on a multi-discipline team
• Ability to work on multiple projects at once
• Good time management skills, a strong work ethic and attention to detail
• Cost estimating experience a plus
• Excellent communications skills with the ability to present designs to clients
• Additional industry certifications such as LEED AP, CxA or CEM
