General Description:

The Executive Director is a full-time salaried position of approximately 40 hours per week, requiring a flexible schedule during regular Gallery hours and after-hours events. The Executive Director serves at the discretion of the WAG Board of Directors and reports directly to the Board and Executive Board committee. The salary is based on experience, training and expertise.

Required Qualifications:

  • The Executive Director must have administrative, fundraising, and developmental experience.
  • Interest in the arts, particularly the visual arts
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Suite, graphic arts, and financial management.
  • CRM Experience
  • Strong demonstrated skills in getting work done through others, must be an advocate for the Arts
  • Comfortable presenting to small and large groups of people
  • Strong writing ability: grants, patron letters, artists, etc..
  • Collaborative Approach to Leadership
  • 4 year degree, BS or BA, with 5+ years of related work experience

Recommended Qualifications

  • Recommended art gallery or other non-profit organization experience.

Duties:

Duties of the Executive Director include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing all day-to-day operations of the Gallery including management of staff
  • Planning, development and implementation of special Gallery events and fundraiser developing
  • Support in grant writing - Oversight of the North Carolina Cultural Arts Grassroots Grant and Artist Support Grant
  • Coordinating all Gallery educational programs in partnership with the Education Director
  • Developing creative programming to extend the reach of the arts in the community
  • Developing and coordinating the exhibitions schedule, and working with exhibiting artists to create diverse, educational exhibits,
  • Developing marketing strategies for the Gallery, Social Media Marketing plan, Direct Mail development, and oversight and publishing of annual report of Gallery service and accomplishments to the community. In addition this publication includes information with schedules and plans for the upcoming year. Currently in the form of our WAGazine
  • Attending committee meetings ex officio and assist the Board as requested
  • maintaining the Gallery facilities in an appropriate manner and coordinating needed maintenance and repairs
  • Work with staff to create and/or edit invitations, Wagazine, press releases, etc..
  • Maintaining a professional presence in the local, regional and state arts communities
  • Compiling and making all bank deposits
  • Coordinating pay of all invoices in a timely fashion with gallery bookkeeper, promptly reporting any discrepancies or concerns to the Board Treasurer
  • Coordinate bank information with bookkeeper to prepare financial reports for the Gallery Board of Directors monthly meetings
  • Ensuring all payments made to artists and educators with Education Director
  • Compiling all records necessary for the preparation of tax returns, including 1099 Forms for artists and W2 Forms for Gallery staff, and working with Board Treasurer to prepare Gallery tax returns
  • Preparing other necessary financial reports, including financial reports and grant requirements, annually for the North Carolina Secretary of State, NC Arts Council, etc.,
  • Abiding by the provisions of the WAG Personnel Policy Manual, and performing other duties as assigned by the WAG Board of Directors.

Work Schedule:

Given the flexibility and variability of the schedule and hours required of the Executive Director, he/she will have the authority and obligation to regularly adjust his/her work hours so as to average approximately 40 hours weekly.

Pay: From $40,000.00 per year
