Senior Java/Grails SSRS Software Developer

GDIT is seeking a strong and motivated person who is interested in joining a mid-size Agile development team. This position provides an opportunity to work with a team of scientific and technical staff in support of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). CPRIT accepts applications and awards grants for a wide variety of cancer-related research and for the delivery of cancer prevention programs and services by public and private entities located in Texas.

As a Java/Grails/.NET Developer, you will be part of an agile delivery team supporting the development and enhancement of a custom JAVA based software application and SSRS reports. The current technical environment includes:

**_Your key responsibilities_**

+ Builds and codes applications and/or modules using languages such as Groovy/Grails, Java, .NET, etc.

+ Collaborates with our scrum team when troubleshooting, performing data requests and creating new enhancements for our client.

+ Design, develop, and maintain code that meets requirements, is high quality, and performs efficiently and effectively to provide a great customer experience

+ Design, build, and implement reporting solutions which meet user requirements.

+ Maintain and support existing reports, reporting tools, and reporting libraries.

+ Utilize SSIS, SSRS, SQL and occasionally JIRA to produce accurate, timely results in response to complex, time-bound problems.

+ Incorporate standards and best practices, including performance, security, scalability, and maintainability

+ Review and provide feedback on functional and technical requirements

+ Provide easy to understand responses to questions or problems.

+ Contributing to improvements in the software development lifecycle (SDLC) utilizing practices such as test-driven development (TDD), static code analysis, code reviews, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and automated security scanning.

+ Understands SQL queries and reporting and their potential impact on performance

+ Resolves technical issues through debugging, research, and investigation.

+ Debugs problems with system software. Provides recommendations for continuous improvement

+ Maintains an awareness of new technologies and their applicability to improving the framework and business

**Daily Activities may include things like the following:**

+ Daily scrums to brief the team on what you are working on and any problems you are having

+ Ad Hoc data tasks to write SQL queries against the database for client requested ad hoc reports or to back out workflow steps

+ Analyze issues with reports or other sections of our Grails application and provide a summary to the technical manager on what the issue is, its impact the rest of system as well as an level of effort estimate to fix.

+ May be asked to work on tasks with other team members or independently

+ Participate in team building activities with the entire team

**Required:**

+ Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline)

+ Minimum 5 years JAVA experience

+ Minimum 2 years Groovy/Grails development experience

+ At least 2-4 years of experience working with SQL Server (e.g., Procedures, Views, Functions) and BI tools such as Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (2016 or higher)

+ Experience with Jira, Fisheye, and Confluence (Atlassian Suite), Jenkins and other CI/CD tools.

+ Experience working with source control repositories such as Subversion & Git.

**Preferred:**

+ Experience constructing web applications using Groovy/Grails/C# .NET

+ Experience integrating web applications with SQL databases using Hibernate

+ Experience with jQuery

+ Experience with Telerik UI for ASP.NET AJAX

+ Understanding of cloud computing concepts

+ Experience working with Source Control (planning, merging, patching)

+ Any current Microsoft Certifications are a plus
