Job Summary Seeking an aerospace or mechanical engineer with a strong background in the field of aviation environmental effects analysis, along with relevant concepts in related engineering domains. Prior research experience with aviation environmental modeling and analysis is required. This includes but is not limited to aviation noise metric quantification, evaluation of noise mitigation measures, and design of noise abatement operational profiles. Familiarity with the FAA’s Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT) is also required. A working knowledge of aircraft trajectory data such as FOQA, ADS-B etc. is a plus.

Required Qualifications
    A Master’s degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, orA Master’s degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, orA Doctoral degree.
Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or Master’s degree in the same with at least 4 years of relevant post-degree industrial experience.

Proposed Salary

The proposed salary for this position is $90,000 annually.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities As part of his or her responsibilities, the applicant is expected to conduct, lead, and publish research involving the development of state-of-the-art aviation environmental models using data analytic techniques and model order reduction methods. A minimum of 12-18 months related research experience is required. Experience with applications specifically related to the aviation industry is desirable. Proficiency with tools such as JMP, FLOPS, NPSS and a working knowledge of SQL, MATLAB, and Python is required. The applicant must demonstrate evidence of a strong research background, including experience on relevant technical projects, papers presented at technical conferences, and articles published in peer-reviewed journals.

The applicant will be responsible for assisting and coordinating projects. This includes coordinating all communication with sponsors, meeting deadlines and scheduling milestones, writing proposals, and supervising teams composed of graduate/undergraduate students. Version control (using Git and GitHub), automated testing, code review, and other tool development management skills are desired.

Furthermore, the applicant will work with his/her division chief to search for opportunities for sponsored research project and engage in exploring collaborations with government agencies, academia, and industry. A certain level of outreach to participate in technical committees, working groups, and academic societies is therefore expected. The applicant must also be prepared to offer course lectures, lab sections, or invited talks. Hence, excellent written and oral communication skills are a requirement. Experience in effective teaching, constructing successful business opportunities, and developing/patenting technologies is highly desired.
