JOB OPENING - DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
CityMusic Cleveland is a professional chamber orchestra dedicated to making classical music accessible through free concerts and innovative programming. Since its inception in 2004, CityMusic has built partnerships with communities across Northeast Ohio, bringing exceptional performances to longtime classical music lovers and first-time audience members alike.
CityMusic Cleveland seeks an organized, hands-on, and motivated individual to be our Development Director. The Development Director is responsible for raising a budget of $375,000 per year from contributed sources. The Development Director manages all aspects of fundraising, including writing and managing grants from foundations and government funders, creating and managing annual fundraising campaigns, and developing and managing the annual budget. The Development Director is a 4 day per week (32 hours per week) salaried position reporting to the Executive Director.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages day-to-day operation of development office and supervises part-time development assistant;
Maintains extensive grants calendar and generates proposals for foundations, government funders and corporations;
Engages in active communication with grants program officers at foundations and government agencies and oversees grant reporting;
Identifies new institutional funding sources;
Strategizes, plans and implements annual fundraising campaigns;
Creates and manages income and expense budget for CityMusic;
Oversees day-to-day financial processes, with support of an independent accountant;
Provides regular fundraising reports (across all areas of contributed income), analysis, and recommendations to Executive Director;
Works with Executive Director and Artistic leadership to secure major gifts from current donors/prospects and new funding sources;
Oversees annual fundraising efforts, including fundraising mailings, renewal and lapsed letters, ticket buyer appeals, outreach and stewardship;
Responsible for identifying, soliciting and stewarding individual donors;
Oversees acknowledgment process of donors and all donor related activities;
Oversees donor program listings and other donor recognition for season and productions;
Attends all CityMusic concerts to oversee audience experience and coordinate collecting concert donations;
Provides financial reports for board meetings.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND CHARACTERISTICS
The successful candidate will have:
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; a positive attitude and energy, and an empathetic, and collaborative leadership style, exhibiting an openness to many perspectives;
Extensive knowledge of classical music required;
Strong organizational and communication skills;
Strong writing skills and demonstrated experience with grant writing;
Budget management experience;
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy;
Ability to manage multiple projects;
Strong computer skills including Microsoft office proficiency, familiarity with Constituent Relations Management (CRM) software preferred, experience with QuickBooks Online preferred;
Experience working for an arts nonprofit preferred.
Completion of a COVID-19 vaccine regimen and booster (if eligible) is required.
COMPENSATION
This four day per week (32 hours) position will receive compensation in the range of $30,000 to $45,000 annually, dependent on experience. Evening and weekend availability required to work at CityMusic concerts and events. Benefits include paid vacation and sick leave.
