Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power & Digital Infrastructure division is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This position is based at our Santa Ana, CA facility.  Relocation benefits will be provided within the United States only. 

 

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design and development of the product line.  In this role, you will support project design, development and production of prototype power distribution and monitoring/metering equipment.

In this function you will:

  • Research, evaluate, and document mechanical hardware design & production methods, equipment, systems, and sub-systems to meet requirements, applying knowledge of standards, codes & engineering design principles.
  • Provide expertise in the implementation and interpretation of applicable UL, IEC, and other related specifications.
  • Lead design reviews, proposes, and implements changes.
  • Act as technical lead for the department and analyze customer proposals for feasibility and cost. Review, interpret, and approve technical documents, designs and schematics.
  • Drive the development of comprehensive mechanical engineering specifications for New Product Developments (NPD). Support the management and update throughout the prototype development process.
  • Develop comprehensive product mechanical designs, installation diagrams & testing plans for NPD. Manage and update throughout product development to production release.
  • Develop mechanical aspects of new power distribution & monitoring products, per approved engineering specifications. Test and document new products per approved testing plans. Maintain all design & test documentation within Eaton repository system.
  • Support project managers for the planning, testing and Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) certification of new and existing products.
  • Communicate and support engineering team, designers, and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Recommend design modifications to improve product line by following and supporting the ECR/ECN/IS09001 and other quality processes.
  • Prepare cost reduction proposals for new and existing products based on cost trades, design improvements and Value-Added Value Engineering (VAVE) process.
  • Coordinate with other departments affected by NPD product design, development, and release.
  • Investigating pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, weight, efficiency, contractual specification, requirement, and cost.
  • Cross train on other product lines like (PDU, RPP and Magnetics).

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of one (1) year Engineering experience.  
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship, now or in the future.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.  
  • Proficiency in Revit, Autodesk Vault, or similar programs.
  • Experience in Finite Element Analysis focused on stress and thermal properties.

  • Ability to read technical documents and drawings.
