Title: Fully Licensed Mental Health Therapist | Remote Flex

Reports to: Director of Clinical Therapy @ Swell

Compensation*: $60,000 annual salary + benefits

Location: Remote

About Swell:

Swell is on a mission to improve mental health through preventative programs and accessible treatment. We envision a world of healthier, happier, kinder, and more mentally resilient people. We’re making this world possible through evidence-backed technology built around both treatment and prevention.

Launching in October of this year, our flagship product, Therapy+ is a mobile-based telehealth therapy application, intended to help military members and their families access evidence-based mental health therapy when they need it, without paying out of pocket. Our product will combine traditional 1:1 video therapy sessions with a mobile application designed to enhance skill adoption outside of the session, and reduce the overall time-to-benefit in therapy.

We’re a small startup with founders passionate about mental health, looking for therapists to join our team and help us bring Swell to the market. If you’re excited about our mission and believe that together we can leverage technology to improve mental health care, then we want to talk to you!

We’re building a distributed team located across several states and leveraging tools and skills to make working remotely work for us. This role will be remote with options for in-person coworking and team building that will grow as we do. We’re looking for someone who can embrace the work-from-anywhere lifestyle while participating in a culture of collaboration and inclusivity across our team.

What you’ll do here:

  • Provide evidence-based therapy via hour-long live video sessions to adult clients

  • Manage a weekly caseload of approximately 24 clients, working “full-time” (~32 hours/week)

  • Establish and track goals in partnership with each of your clients, monitoring outcomes over time

  • Assign & review in-app homework (video modules, daily journaling, check-ins, etc) tailored for each client

  • Participate in quality reviews, ongoing training & professional development

  • Provide feedback and join product discovery sessions to help the team improve the app-experience for both clients and therapists

What the next year will look like:

At first, you’ll be one of 3 people providing therapy at Swell, including your direct manager for now. We plan to start providing video care with our therapists through our app and begin our private-beta with a small group of military families in Fort Campbell in October of this year. We’ll spend the winter getting into a good working rhythm & improving our app and therapy experience for both therapists and our clients. This looks like working through bugs (both technical and operational) and implementing processes that will help us scale the things we’re doing. We expect this time period to be exciting and full of growth for the team as we learn each other and establish our company, but also anticipate healthy friction and a touch of turbulence as we encounter things we didn’t expect and learn from the mistakes we probably don’t know we’re making now.

In the first half of next year, we plan to start scaling video therapy to more people. This means hiring more therapists & supervisors and growing our community presence in and around Fort Campbell. We’ll also start ramping up work on our self-guided care modules and testing them in the market.

About you:

  • You have empathy in spades

  • You’re a fully licensed therapist in the state of TN

  • You have experience treating individuals with trauma, PTSD, Postpartum Depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Depressive disorders

  • You work with evidence-based care modalities like CBT, DBT, EMDR, etc

  • Your practice is oriented around measurable change in clients lives and usually involves SMART goals and skill building

  • You’re interested in expanding and improving your therapy skills

  • You’re a proactive self-organized person who’s confident in modeling boundaries and asking for what you need at work

  • You believe in challenging yourself and your clients, leaning into the discomfort that often accompanies growth

  • You share Swell’s vision and want to be a part of making it a reality

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must already be licensed by a State Board to provide unsupervised mental health therapy (e.g., LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, PsyD or similar credentials) in Tennessee or Kentucky

  • Must have recent experience providing clinical therapy in an outpatient setting

  • Must have access to a reliable internet connection that can support clear video call

Benefits:

  • 32-hour work week with a small caseload of 24 clients

  • Super competitive compensation & stock options (path to ownership) in Swell

  • Great medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • 12 company-wide observed holidays

  • 2 floating personal holidays (to celebrate individual cultural and religious holidays)

  • 6 weeks paid time off

  • Untracked sick time - take what you need for you and your family

  • Remote culture that supports you working from anywhere with an internet connection

  • Guidance and mentorship to help you achieve your career goals

  • Tons of opportunity for growth and promotion (we prefer to promote as opposed to external hiring when we have interested employees)

  • Minimal paperwork :)

We’re looking for several therapists and one director to join our team and are open to folks who are fully licensed with the state of Tennessee and/or Kentucky.

We prefer our therapists to have foundational training in at least one evidence-based therapy modality and trauma-informed care knowledge prior to starting at Swell. We’re happy to support you in further developing these skills through ongoing training, supervision, and consultation.

Individuals of all colors, backgrounds, religions (or lack thereof), sexual orientations, and gender identities who are passionate about helping clients bring about meaningful, measurable change in their lives are encouraged to apply.

*Note on salary - to keep things fair and balanced across our team, we decide on compensation for roles upfront and then communicate it transparently. This way salaries aren’t dependent on negotiating skills or subjective traits that leave room for bias. At Swell, salaries are standardized for each role and level within the team, and printed on the job post.
