Position Summary:

The Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and its Clinical and Translational Science Award ( CTSA ) and CTSA -linked K Mentored Career Development Award represent a large NIH infrastructure grant to support clinical and translational research at the University at Buffalo (UB) and the Buffalo Translational Consortium ( BTC ) partner institutions under the leadership of the Director of the CTSI .

The IT Business Analyst has overall responsibility for IT support to align technology solutions for the administrative and programmatic needs of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute ( CTSI ). This position is responsible for an innovative IT infrastructure designed to support biomedical research and collaboration. The IT Business Analyst works closely with the CTSI Director of Evaluation, Chief Operating Officer, core directors and staff as well as the UB Research Information Systems ( RIS ) office. The position requires independent judgment and initiative, under the general direction of the CTSI Director, and collaborating with other senior leaders in the CTSI and Buffalo Translational Consortium ( BTC ).

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage and implement IT solutions; modify, enhance or adapt existing systems; troubleshoot technical issues and identify modifications needed in existing software applications that produce reports for appropriate recipients.
  • Contribute to tracking and reporting system for CTSI activities and services from multiple systems.
  • Manage web-based support systems.
  • Work with the CTSI Communications Director regarding efficient announcement mechanisms, newsletter production, and social media presence.
  • Provide audio and video technical support for CTSI conferences and virtual seminars.
  • Work collaboratively with IT colleagues at the University at Buffalo, CTSI, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, UB's Research Information Systems (RIS) office and BTC partner organizations and institutes.
  • Utilize Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) secure web application to build and manage online surveys and databases.
  • Must be able to meet project deadlines and communicate with supervisor should accommodations or changes be necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
  • 1-2 years' experience
  • Proficiency in managing, implementing, and optimizing IT projects
  • Proficiency in web based systems design and implementation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook productivity tools and Excel analysis/reporting
  • Ability to learn new software applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in computer science or related field
  • Proficiency in using relational databases, Oracle/SQL queries for quality assurance and reporting.
  • Familiarity with Zoom/Panopto
  • Familiarity with electronic health record and clinical research data
  • Experience in CTSA environments and/or in clinical research settings
  • Experience in processing and analyzing large data sets using relational and non-relational technologies
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and PHP
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator
  • Familiarity with Tableau interactive dashboard for data analytics
  • Familiarity with REDCap
  • Facility in programming in suitable languages and platforms
