JOB DESCRIPTION: DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

Position/Title: Director of Strategic Operations

Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt

Reports to: President

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:


The Director of Strategic Operations is responsible for assuring Viking's go-to-market strategy is executed including general supervision of all phases of marketing, product strategy, supply partners, office, and the product development process. Including: sales programs, monitoring R&D process, assisting with purchasing, product supply, quality control, hiring and training personnel. They will work closely with the Director of Marketing, Director of Technical and Customer Service, Director of Sales, the Viking Sales Force and production teams to increase sales, the customer experience, productivity and profitability within the operations of Viking.

CORE AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborate with executive-level management in the development of performance goals and strategy
  • Establish goals for increased sales, operational efficiency, and productivity.
  • Establish and utilize quantitative and qualitative metrics, guidelines, and standards by which the company's efficiency and effectiveness can be evaluated and improved upon
  • Work with Director of Sales to improve on sales programs, tracking, product improvements, sales training and support
  • Work with Director of Training to develop and improve sales training programs
  • Work with management in the development of financial and budgetary plans.
  • Analyze sales strategy and performance, recommending solutions for improvement.
  • Work with Director of Technical and Customer Service to analyze current internal operational processes and performance, recommending solutions for improvement.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor day-to-day operational systems and processes that provide visibility into goals, progress, and obstacles for the key initiatives.
  • Develop relationships with suppliers/manufacturing for operational improvements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with all department heads, external partners, and vendors to make decisions regarding operational activity and strategic goals.
  • Plan, monitor, and analyze key metrics for the day-to-day performance of the operations to ensure efficient and timely completion of tasks.
  • Devise strategies to ensure growth, identify and implement process improvements that will maximize output and minimize costs.
  • Uphold organization policies and standards, ensuring legislative regulations are followed.
  • Lead team with integrity and establish and maintain a trusting, inclusive, and productive environment.
  • Improves customer experience and satisfaction through policy and procedural changes.
  • Review established production schedules to ensure established inventory levels are met while operating at the highest efficiency possible.
  • Work closely with quality personnel to review product consistency to determine trends and areas requiring improvement.
  • Work with purchasing personnel to develop and improve supplier relationships.
  • Monitor operation expenses and research ways to reduce costs while maintaining product quality.
  • Analyse workforce requirements and adjust as required for demand.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and provide coaching and guidance to management and supervisory employees.
  • Maintain close and positive relationships with hourly personnel and the local business agents representing their collective bargaining unit.
  • Remove production constraints; allocate human and equipment resources and direct production employees to attain all established goals.
  • Communicate and collaborate with product development personnel to develop new product strategies and new products.
  • Lead cross functional teams in continuous improvements.
  • Projects a positive image of the organization to employees, customers, industry, and community.
  • All other special products and duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of at least a bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Business Management or a related field is required. A Master's Degree is preferred. Must possess advanced knowledge of organizational effectiveness and operations management. Must possess knowledge of best practices in: business and management, finance and accounting, human resources and project management. Demonstrate an aptitude to read and write specifications as well as possess strong problem solving skills and the ability to determine solutions for customers. Must be results-oriented and able to work both independently and within a team environment. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite applications. Finally, driving is a requirement for this position. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and driving record which is acceptable to our insurance provider.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to communicate orally in a clear, concise and effective manner with the customers, account representatives, company representatives, management, staff, and the public in face-to-face, one-on-one and group settings. Ability to use a telephone for communication. Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance at the facility. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Use office equipment such as a personal computer, copier and facsimile machines. Ability to communicate in writing in a clear, concise and effective manner. Sit or stand for extended time periods. Hearing and vision required to be within normal ranges. Carry, push, pull, reach and lift up to 50 lbs. Read at, above, and below shoulder height. Occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch. Sufficient manual dexterity required to operate equipment. Normal range of tolerance to household and other types of typical industrial/ construction chemicals and solvents. Travel, local, and domestically may be required. Ability to occasionally work evenings, weekends, and overnight travel required.
