Position Summary:
As a Level II Mechanical Engineer at Lincoln Electric Automation Columbus, you will be responsible for being the mechanical lead on automation projects typically in the die-casting, forging, and foundry industries. The Mechanical Engineering Supervisor will assign projects and tasks to you that include both short term and long term milestone dates. You will have limited or no direct supervision on these tasks. You will be responsible for gathering and correlating data from the customer and our applications department and utilize that information to design automated equipment using a mixture of standard assemblies and custom designs. Translating this data into usable data that is applicable to the engineering assignment, verifying technical accuracy and the ability to evaluate creative and original solutions is required. Routine duties involve calculations, testing, and general day to day problem solving of a technical nature. As the project lead, you will be responsible for the design, customer approvals, detail drawings, build support, and final documentation of the product. The Mechanical Engineer II will mentor and lead the activities of less experienced personnel, and perform other duties as assigned by the department manager.

Position responsibilities:


  • Design mechanical systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems

  • Integration of component level designs into automation cells.
  • Create innovative solutions to customer pain points

  • Remain a competent, professional staff member capable of meeting established production and quality goals in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Keep the Mechanical Engineering Supervisor informed through timely utilization of verbal and written communication.

  • Designs, develops and tests projects as assigned by the Mechanical Engineering Supervisor

  • Creates new and modifies existing drawings

  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal skills,
  • Relates well to others; works well in a team environment

  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.

  • Other duties, responsibilities and special projects as assigned by the Mechanical Engineering Supervisor

  • Create new job work instructions for day to day tasks

  • Design and implement initiatives to reduce long term costs

  • Process Improvement

    • Standardize components and systems to reduce costs in the long term

    • Standardize design process activities

    • Increase personal technical knowledge via self-directed actions

    • Identify and eliminate wasteful activities

  • Travel up to 5% is possible



Essential skills and experience:


  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering preferred; Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

    • Manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, industrial, and related

    • Automation integration

  • Understand the demands of machine design for hot, dirty, and dangerous environments

  • Must be capable of creating pneumatic and hydraulic schematics

  • The ability to visualize and execute design concepts is a must.
  • Working well in a team environment that can have shifting day to day priorities to collectively accomplish a given task.
  • Documented experience with:

    • Automation
    • Control systems

    • Safety standards (OSHA, NEC, NFPA, RIA, etc.)

    • SolidWorks or equivalent

    • EPDM Vault is a plus

    • Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook

  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills

  • Firsthand experience in die-casting, forging, or foundry environments is a plus

  • Understand the Company’s EHS Policy and how it relates to this job.

  • Be aware of OSHA & EPA laws and regulations as well as the Company’s Plant Rules and Regulations that pertain to this job.

  • Work in a safe and environmentally friendly manner and observe all company EHS procedures.

  • Know that the company EHS procedures are located on the ISO drive.

  • Immediately notify the Supervisor if there is any safety hazard, any equipment not operating correctly, or if there are any questions regarding EHS procedures.

  • Attend required EHS training

  • Physical demands: Work is a mix of sedentary, standing and walking. When testing equipment this individual may have to occasionally lift 25 pounds and be able to reach, bend, squat and stand. Using testing equipment, measuring devices, and tools require manual dexterity and visual acuity. Traveling is minimal; hours may be irregular.

  • Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
