YOUR ROLE:
As the Optics Design Engineer, you will focus on LEDs and designing optical systems with lenses and reflectors for new projects as well as cost reductions of existing products within the Signals & Components and Obstruction groups. You will be the subject matter expert for LEDs and optics within the group and will be responsible for managing their project timelines and cost.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum Bachelor of Science in Optics/Physics/ Electrical Engineering
- 2-5 years of experience in optical design experience with lenses and reflectors
- Optics software Lighttools (preferred)
- Good knowledge and experience with Pro/E Creo design software
- Experience with lab setup and equipment for the testing of optical systems
- Understanding of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs)
Key Responsibilities:
- Design / develop new innovative optical systems, utilizing lens and reflector systems for products offered by the Signals & Components and Obstruction in compliance with applicable regulations and safety standards. (FMVSS, CMVSS, ITE, FAA, ICAO )
- Verify design concepts and evaluate components, assemblies, and devices using simulation software and live tests
- Provide technical support to vendors and customers.
- Review and recommend LEDs for the various designs.
- Participation in continuous improvement of LED products and validation efforts for cost reductions of existing products
- Design for manufacturability and reliability for a wide range of environmental conditions.
- Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to incorporate optical designs into products for high volume manufacturing.
- Develop procedures that enable manufacturing and testing of the designs.
- Assist manufacturing in solving photometric issues
- Interact with intercompany locations, vendors, and customers on design related issues
