Job Description:
As a contract linguist at the FBI, you will utilize your proficiency in Spanish, Persian-Farsi, Pashto-Afghani, Arabic, Ukrainian, French, Haitian Creole, Somali, or Hindi to provide valuable services that can help prevent criminal activity from happening. These services will not only enable you to use your language skills to the fullest, but you'll also have an opportunity to work with a highly respected institution that values and respects expertise in foreign languages and cultures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Transform materials that are originally in a foreign language into English, which can be in written or audio form.
- The importance of interpretation cannot be overstated in interviews, training sessions, or visits from foreign dignitaries as it helps to facilitate communication and enhance understanding.
- My knowledge of different cultural practices and behaviors can assist investigators in identifying patterns or red flags that may be relevant to an investigation.
- Discuss the standards followed during the translation process to ensure impartiality and neutrality.
- Provide guidance to covert operatives on conducting different types of interviews.
- In this position, the majority of the work will be conducted at a field office, however, individuals should be prepared to travel to other field offices or legal attachs to assist with case development when necessary.
Key Requirments:
To be deemed eligible for the contract linguist opportunity, specific conditions must be met:
- The FBI's Foreign Language Test Battery mandates receiving qualifying marks that prove your competency in languages.
- To be eligible for this role, one must have U.S. Citizenship.
- The position requires the attainment of Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance as a prerequisite.
- Committed to traveling as required for the position.
- The FBI's requirements for Employment Eligibility must be satisfied by all candidates desiring to work for the agency.
