Position Description:

Provides a hands-on approach to leadership in directing, planning, managing, and coordinating the educational goals and vision of the school. Responsible for meeting desired outcomes in the areas of operations, curriculum, personnel management and development in accordance with the principles of an Excel Center. Accountability will be measured both internally and externally by state and local standards. Essential functions include supervision and management of faculty and team members, creating and maintaining a safe and secure educational environment for up to 350 students and managing the fiscal activities of the school. The position will work with the AGES Governing Board in establishing school goals and objectives. The Director will be heavily involved with strategic planning within a fast-paced, high-change environment. When accountable for a school prior to start up, the Director will also engage in project management, school design, advocacy efforts, facility acquisition/build-out, staff-up activities, team onboarding and training, and all other responsibilities associated with launching a new school site.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops strategies, goals, and objectives for the school and manages the implementation of these objectives.

  • Participates in the development of overall educational strategies.

  • Assists faculty in setting priorities, facilitating meetings and developing their leadership skills.

  • Provides leadership in the development of new partnerships and/or methodologies in response to changing needs concerning students, test results, and/or Arizona Academic Standards.

  • Represents the school, as appropriate, in community planning and policy-making activities.

  • Works with the leadership team to ensure appropriate building management coverage for an Excel Center’s hours of operation.

  • Responsible for performance management (coaching, discipline, performance improvement plans, and annual reviews), staffing, compensation, and development of Excel Center team members.

  • Attends all team and professional development meetings.

  • Plays critical role in driving company culture change efforts and change management processes.

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Sociology, Human Services, Counseling, or related field, Master’s Degree preferred

  • Current Teaching Certification; ESL, Special Education, Dual Certification, and/or Principal certification preferred

  • 3 – 5 years of successful coaching or teaching experience preferred

  • Current Arizona Secondary Administrator’s License preferred but not required

  • Demonstrated leadership ability to influence others in a proactive and strength-focused manner and bring about mission-focused change

  • Supervisory experience in education, human services, or a related field

  • Prior experience as an instructional coach, lead teacher, or department chair preferred

  • Demonstrated leadership ability to develop a rigorous curriculum, scope and sequence, unit and lesson plans preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and coordinate processes and activities carried out by other individuals

  • Two years of experience in teaching, life coaching, case management, counseling, advising, or a related field

  • Experience working with high school age students in urban, non-traditional, and/or adult education setting

  • Experience working with English Language Learners and immigrant students

  • Strong sense of professionalism, administrative ability, systemic understanding of student dynamics and socioemotional approaches, and effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Must possess understanding of marginalization and how it impacts those Goodwill serves and employs

  • Superior leadership, supervisory, customer service skills, organizational, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks or crisis situations effectively

  • Exhibit respect for diversity of thought and have experience to advance it in teams/organization

  • Valid driver’s license and clean MVR

  • Ability to pass a background check, fingerprint clearance, and drug screen
