The Card Strategy and Special Projects Team:
In this particular role, you will report into the Card Strategy and Special Projects team. Our team works on the highest-leverage projects to propel Capital One's Card business forward. Our work includes solving important business problems, designing the future of work, building and supporting the growth of new ventures, and increasing the efficiency of the business. What all this work has in common is that it's high-visibility and high-impact. Reporting directly to Card Leadership, we work to drive efficiencies, collaboration, innovation, and outsized value across the organization.
We're currently exploring new ideas at the intersection of credit, talent, and decision-making. A startup within a Fortune 100 company, our team is able to leverage an extensive bench of talent and resources to pilot new products while moving at breakneck speed - and with buy-in of Capital One's most senior leaders. In addition to testing original ideas, our team explores possibilities to commercialize existing internal products.
The Role:
Have you ever stepped into a flight simulator? Or played mayor in SimCity? Well, now we're looking to bring the simulation experience to upskill our credit talent: We'll be putting Capital One associates into an immersive simulator where they analyze data, make decisions, and monitor the results - all driven by powerful credit and economic models. In this role, you'll be partnering with a team of data scientists, economists, product managers, designers and learning & development professionals to rapidly prototype, test, and launch this credit learning experience. This is a high-priority product for the enterprise, with active engagement from senior leaders. If we're successful, we'll have a dramatic impact on how we can attract and develop top analytical talent within the financial services industry.

What You'll Do:
- Lead a technology project with deep experience in full stack systems to create a solution that will help meet a critical business need for the company
- Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, mentoring other members of the engineering community
- Collaborate with digital product managers, and deliver robust cloud-based solutions that drive powerful experiences to help millions of Americans achieve financial empowerment
- Utilize programming languages like JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, and Go, Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of AWS tools and services - you'll be building from the ground up on the Credit Simulator product, so you'll have the opportunity to define which technologies to leverage
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- At least 6 years of experience in software engineering (Internship experience does not apply)
- At least 1 year experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)
- At least 2 years of people management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree
- 7+ years of experience in at least one of the following: JavaScript, Java, TypeScript, SQL, Python, or Go
- 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service
- 4+ years of experience in open source frameworks
- 5+ years of people management experience
- 2+ years of experience in Agile practices
