Job Summary



The Lead Data Scientist supports the organization with consumer insight and analytics relative to global consumers and markets of Harley-Davidson products, services, and experience. The Lead Data Scientist will provide predictive and prescriptive analytics technical expertise within advanced analytics. This role is expected to manage and lead larger ad hoc projects identified by company leadership. May mentor other data scientists. The ideal candidate would have the following skill sets:

Job Responsibilities



  • Develop and improve data science / advanced analytics capability, talent, and understanding throughout the company

  • Lead the development of large scale data science projects from the ground up, including: Frame data science problems; Identify clear lines of questioning; Extract, wrangle, and structure data from multiple source; Implement cutting edge classification, recommendation, simulation, sequence mining, and other models; Check your work against existing business knowledge; make decisions about project directions, conditions of success, and completion

  • Create clear and concise presentations of project results including, high quality visualizations to present to leadership

  • Proactively research industry trends, opportunities, and risks

  • Partner and mentor other Data Scientists to produce clear, concise, and repeatable code that can be used by other members of the team without explanation



Education Requirements



  • A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Statistics, Analytics, Economics, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field; An advanced degree in a related field is strongly preferred. PhD is a plus.



Experience Requirements



  • Typically requires 8+ years of related experience

  • Proven ability to integrate data from many sources, identifying yet unasked questions, and capitalizing on opportunities to advance business goals

  • Expert level knowledge of statistical methodologies, machine learning, and their underlying assumptions. Proven expertise in the use of Python and PySpark for data science. Knowledge of additional analytical software like Tableau, PowerBI, and Alteryx preferred but not required. Expertise with techniques and methodologies for analyzing large data sets.
