Job Description




The Director, Summer School & Academic Services is responsible for providing strategic leadership for Summer and Intersession programming as part of the academic portfolio in WCAS. They serve as the ?face? of the Summer Session. They also supervise and support the Assistant Director for BCE.



The Director manages the work of the operational staff supporting WCAS undergraduate and graduate education. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to: faculty hiring processes, managing the academic information in Eagle Apps, developing and managing staff; shared responsibility for financial management of these units with the Associate Dean of Finance and Administration for WCAS. They are the primary contact between WCAS and the Registrar?s Office.



This role will manage the offering of all undergraduate summer courses at the University. Typically, during the summer, Woods College establishes the course catalogue for the summer courses, staffing for over 200 courses while collaborating with the departments in MCAS, Lynch, CSOM and Woods. All the faculty teaching in the summer are hired through Woods in addition to managing the registration process and supporting faculty during the Summer. In addition, courses are run through the BCE program (high school students) during the summer and this role will oversee this function as well, assuming a new position is established for this role. The Summer program generates over $6M per year in just 3 months. There is an expectation that the summer program will continue to grow each year.



In addition, this role will oversee the student and faculty related Woods Academic Services operational activities. This includes the front desk activity, coordinating with the UG and Graduate programs on course programming for the academic year, managing the Canvas sites for faculty and students, and serving as the primary contact with the University Registrar and Student Services. Woods hires close to 100 faculty each semester and the process requires submitting contracts, hiring them into the HR system and then any changes that would be required before classes start.




Examples of responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:



  • Summer Session and Intercession:
  • Researching and developing programming for BC undergraduate students in all Schools
  • Establishing relationships with BC Undergraduate Chairs, Faculty and department administrators
  • Build summer schedule, hire faculty and manage the registration process
  • Liaise with faculty on the development of new courses with CDIL
  • Monitor enrollments
  • Manage and oversee the Academic Services
  • Managing the course listing for Woods graduate and undergraduate programs
  • Primary liaison with the University Registrar
  • Overseeing Faculty and Student facing Canvas sites
  • Boston College Experience
  • Support the Assistant Director in developing new programming opportunities for high school students
  • Review and approval all programs and serve as the primary point of contact for parents of minors


Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $88,300 to $110,400; salary commensurate with relevant experience.



Requirements



  • Master?s degree required with a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience managing academic operations within higher education
  • Highly organized, highly skilled at managing time, building relationships, balancing multiple priorities and adhering to tight deadlines, and managing highly detailed processes
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills that include the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students; recruit, manage and develop program staff, apply creativity to the development of programs and solving problems; and lead decisively to resolve situations involving conflict or crisis
  • Prior experience in managing non-traditional programs and or in a registrar?s office at a college or university (preferable but not required)
