Writer - Cannabis Retailer (Remote)
Emerald is seeking a Writer with a background in writing informative, fact-based content about the business of cannabis retail to join our MJBiz team. MJBizDaily is the most trusted B2B news source for the cannabis industry in the US and Canada, producing online news services, newsletters, magazines, and major trade shows.
The Retail Writer will be the lead writer on MJBiz's in-house content team. Coverage provided will be a combination of news and analysis and evergreen content. This position will be responsible for writing a weeky newsletter for cannabis entrepreneurs and for contributing roughly 2 stories a week to MJBizDaily.com. Our primary audience is owners of retail cannabis businesses, whether they run a single store front or a multi-state business, with a focus on adult-use or medical.
The Retail Writer will also curate a newly launching MJBiz Retailer Instagram account, supplying images of new products, store designs and people with content, along with helping our conference content team to build the right content for their audiences.

• Write different types of content, ranging from mobile-friendly news briefs to analytical web articles
• Produce at daily newspaper pace, on deadline, with accuracy and using AP style
• Select stories and angles that will be of the most interest to business readers
• Foster and maintain professional relationships with key cannabis executives and regulators
• Work easily with colleagues across the globe, in media and events
• Generate your own story ideas
• Support the team with editing, proof reading as needed
• Direct conference programmers to hot topics and great speakers
• Curate newly-launched Instagram account
• Professional writing and/or editing experience for a B2B publication
• Accuracy in reporting and an ability to follow editorial guidelines and copy rules
• Knowledge of the cannabis industry
• Basic, journalism-level working knowledge of SEO and site analytics
• Familiarity with WordPress and basic image editing tools
• Ability to travel (<5% of the time)
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Targeted Compensation: $63,000 - $74,000
