Job Overview
Reporting to the Director of Web Communications, the Web Developer serves as the primary technical resource for the Web Communications Team within Marketing Communications. The main areas of responsibility are administering the College’s campus-wide content management system (CMS) and other technical development duties for the Web Team.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary expert in understanding the intricacies and implementation of the content management system, including facilitating updates, troubleshooting errors and problems, and the following CMS administrative functions:
    • Reporting
    • Automated tasks management
    • Synchronizing external data sources
    • URL redirects
    • Content & data integrity
    • Creating and maintaining web channels
  • Configure and maintain all campus user profiles, groups, roles, and permissions for the CMS.
  • Serve as liaison and project manager with external CMS developers and other software partners.
  • Partner with web content specialist and campus departments to build new websites and incorporate existing sites into the content management system.
  • Edit and build CMS components and other enhancements for a continued iterative development of the website.
  • Meet with departments across campus to understand the technical needs they encounter in managing their sections of the College website and helping to research and/or develop solutions.
  • Develop and maintain online forms for departments across campus.
  • Maintain a basic knowledge of database technologies.
  • Serve as the Web Team’s point of contact, supporting and collaborating with other campus departments, where outside software products such as the CollegeNet 25Live calendaring system interface with the College website.
  • Serve as a liaison with the college AIT Services department, providing input and feedback to the networking, help desk and software teams. Stay abreast of current IT projects and challenges, with a particular focus on the website and website users.
  • Serve as MarComm manager of digital asset management tool (Extensis Portfolio) to catalog images and other digital media for easy retrieval and efficient storage.
  • Along with the entire Web Team, demonstrate a willingness to learn and serve in essential tasks as needed, including updating web content, photo editing, HTML editing, migrating content to a CMS, and responding to requests and comments submitted via the website.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 3-5 years related experience.
  • A high comfort level with explaining technical applications to non-technical users.
  • Knowledge and experience working with a WCMS, preferably in higher education.
  • Familiarity with content management and migrations and associated strategies.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, XML.
  • Experience with JSP, PHP, Javascript, and other server-side scripts.
  • Experience with HTML/CSS/Javascript editing software.
  • Understanding of web SEO and accessibility technical best practices
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite a plus
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Thorough understanding of, and commitment to, evangelical Christian tradition, theology, and values.
