Job Description:


The Assistant Director of the Academic Advising Center will work
closely with the Director to develop student support and student
services efforts of the Academic Advising Center. The Assistant
Director is a student-facing role who will respond to general
questions raised by students concerning issues of University
academic policy and support.


 


This leadership role requires a high level of collaboration with
members from the Dean of the College and other members of the
Division of Student Success, as well as faculty advisers,
department chairs, and deans; this person will use these
relationships to help advance the work of the center. 


Key responsibilities of this position are: coordination of
advising events; management and documentation of student
interactions with the center; and assessment of advising programs
and services.   


 



  • Advises students on general academic issues and provides
    information on academic policies and procedures. 

  • Helps students to clarify problems; presents options; assists
    in conflict resolution.

  • Interprets policies; recommends procedures / programs /
    services to foster resolution of difficulties.

  • Assists faculty who raise academic concerns about students in
    their classes.

  • Field, research and respond to questions from parents.

  • Assists students who have questions about submitting petitions
    to College Board.

  • Serves as a member of the Transfer Evaluation Committee;
    participates in transcript reviews for transfer applicants.

  • Evaluates advanced standing credit eligibility for advanced
    placement courses; processes AP transcripts.

  • Assists in reviewing Transfer Credit Approval forms submitted
    by enrolled students.

  • Assists with the update and manage the content of the Academic
    Advising Center's web page.

  • Serves as a summer adviser to incoming students.

  • Serves as adviser to a caseload of undeclared sophomore.

  • Assists in the review, updating, and dissemination of Academic
    Advising Center manuals and publications.

  • Disseminates information during the Open House and Registration
    process

  • Helps students who are under-enrolled for courses

  • Assists with Major Exploration Fair and other programming
    related to the Academic Advising Center

  • Assists in the continued development of Advising Center goals
    and outcomes.

  • Participates in University Committees and Boards related to the
    services of the Academic Advising Center.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree, preferred

  •  3-5 years of experience in advising or a student services
    related area.

  • Proven ability to advise and or recommend appropriate
    strategies to resolve and address student needs; able to determine
    the appropriate advising approach in working with students.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting and working with a diverse
    student population

  • Strong systems and processing knowledge with respect to general
    business and academic operations.

  • Experience with Student Information Systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams; proven ability to
    develop productive working relationships with college faculty and
    staff.

  • Ability to prioritize work responsibilities.

  • Experience and interest in the development of professional
    standards in Academic Advising.

  • Prior experience working with and contributing to a diverse
    workplace with the ability to interact effectively with a broad
    range of constituents on campus including students, faculty,
    families and staff.
