Position Highlights
Represents Health Information Management internally and externally to the medical center, accurately following all applicable federal, state and local guidelines for the processing of patient information. Accurately and independently makes decisions based on specialized knowledge and standard protocol. This includes but is not limited to coding inpatient and outpatient medical records. Position Responsibilities
Reviews medical records, assigns ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT and HCPCS codes to inpatient and outpatient medical records.
Abstracts selected data items into software with attention to detail.
Communicates verbal or electronically with the Medical staff and other ancillary departments to ensure documentation is accurate and complete.
Reviews and validates account charges, communicates charge issues to appropriate departments.
Keeps abreast of all coding updates/information by utilizing the resources provided.
Adheres to the standard productivity standards set forth by the department and maintains a productivity log.

Required Position Qualifications
High School or equivalent (GED)
Medical Terminology, Anatomy and physiology, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4 and HCPCS codes.
Knowledge of legal and policy constraints pertaining to code assignment and documentation.
Basic Computer skills.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and clearly communicate medical information to professional practitioners.
Self-motivated, works independently with minimal supervision.
Willingness to learn.
Able to make decisions and solve problems.
Detail oriented.

Preferred Position Qualifications
Registered Health Information Management Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
Knowledge of EPIC, 360 CAC/Encoder.
1-3 years of experience.

Physical Demands
Able to sit for long periods of time.
Able to work on a computer monitor 100% of the time.
Able to accept change in regard to rules and guidelines.
